for the number and types of disabilities, just do the best you can, and give a rough representation.

Don't list symptoms as separate disabilities, but if one diagnosis then caused another separate condition, count them both.

Self diagnosis is fine

okay.

I have:

-physical: Marfan syndrome and partial deafness in both ears, also persistent migrainous aura. not sure if hypoglycaemia counts or if it's a part of my inborn disorder.

-mental: bipolar I, generalised anxiety disorder, pretty severe OCD. I also have an eating disorder that might probably fall under OSFED/EDNOS category (atypical bulimia, different from the 'typical' one that everyone at least has heard about).

-possibly developmental (autism), but I don't count it because it's never been officially diagnosed, despite me having the majority of symptoms.

Number of illnesses: checked 6, because I didn't count them.

Access: very difficult (I still have no hearing aids, even though I'm unable to recognise speech!)

Language: no preference, why would it matter to me.

Sexuality: grey homo ace, most likely.

Would I get rid of it?: YES.

Impact: 5 (hearing problems mostly, but other things as well)

Age: I was born with MFS, lost my hearing at the very early age due to antibiotics (had severe kidney disease as a child). For mental ones, I'm not sure.

1: Anxiety is the only illness I'm aware that I have. I don't have any physical or developmental disabilities.

2: Just the one.

3: Sometimes tricky. My anxiety makes me constantly worry and panic over very minor things, and also makes it hard for me to socialise.

4: I don't really understand that question?

5: Asexual

6: Yes, definitely! I do anything for my anxiety to just simply disappear. I hate having it.

7: A fairly big impact (between a 3-5). It makes it hard for me to do basic things, and like I mentioned above, socialise.

8: 3-5 years (I was around 3). I had a pretty traumatic experience as a child, and I guess that's what triggered my anxiety.

Anxiety, Depression, (C)PTSD

Asperger's (moderate developmental, slight learning disability)

I didn't list that I have loose kneecaps, which seems to be a common thing for AFAB people.  I have been wearing knee braces to exercise for the past couple years, and more the past week because I hurt my leg during a cartwheel.  I fell on an ankle almost two years ago and it sometimes can still be fragile.

Since I moved home not that long ago, I'm still unsure as to what resources I use.  At school, I was suggested some resources for autism but I never had time to go to them.  At home I just have my gender therapist.

I'm still confused as to what qualifies as Asperger's and so called high functioning autism because of the differing views people have so I'm not really sure which label is not offensive.  I'm just told that Autism Speaks and the puzzle piece are bad because they seek to "cure" those with autism.  Plus I was diagnosed late, in college, so I have no idea if I fit in the community or if I'm "autistic enough" because of my lack of learning difficulty.  I remember a lot of random facts because I don't have a sense of what is considered important.

Very ace.

I would like anxiety and depression to go away, and my inability to sense important information.  But that would probably make me very neurotypical.  Eh, idk.

It impacted my only close relationship when I graduated college.  Well, the only one I cared about.  I put 2, but actually now I think it is more than that.  I sleep at odd times (which is why I'm doing this at 3 AM), I wake up not rested or simply tired, and I can't even begin to work a full time job because I don't have the energy for it.  When I talk, I wonder if people just think I'm weird because I have trouble in social situations.

Since I was diagnosed with everything late, I'm not totally sure.  I can only speculate.  I was probably born with Asperger's.  I wonder if my dad is on the spectrum because of how quirky he is, or he's just going senile right now since he's retired.  I answered 6-10 because I usually think of my mental illness.  Spoiler for abuse

I remember when I was about 8 years old, I was working on my homework one night.  My mom doesn't let me go to bed unless I finish to her satisfaction every night.  I would leave to go to sleep around 10, which is probably late for someone who is 6-10 years old.  She thought that the most effective way to wake me up when I fell asleep doing homework was to push/slam my face into the table.  Sure I woke up.  I ended up crying.  The second night she tried that, my lip bled so she stopped doing it.  So if I already being subjected to my mom's torture by age 8, then my mental illness must've started sometime then.  My head has been hurt so many times from injuries, slaps, and more that I stopped feeling it.  In contrast, my dad believes that hitting on the head makes people more stupid so he would never hit me on the head.  Meanwhile, my mom almost always hit me on the head.  So I might've been smarter if I wasn't hit in the head so much.

Not as badly affected as many, but apraxia, information processing issues ADHD are all probably due to neuro diverse response patterns. Disorder of sexual development certainly affects my physical appearance, caused mental health issues, and harmed my social confidence.

1.-2.) I have one disorder.... but only one :D (and it's just run of the mill LD :P ..)

3.) I have no clue how easy it is to access resources, I kinda haven't used or really needed any in years...

4.) I don't care if it's called "person with disability" or "disabled person"...

6.) this is something I have actually thought about and I'm going to divide it into two sections:

  • 6.1: can take away the thing in the present, as in right now: ...
Spoiler

I'd have to say, probably no, I would not take away my disorder... not even for 100Euros, maybe for 1000 though, I'd have to think about it... I kinda am used to it, and don't really know how much I'd change if it was taken away, and probably wouldn't want to risk it.. because though it really only effects certain things, making it magically go away would be changing the structure of my brain in a significant way, and I'm not sure I want my brain changing drastically in ways only magic can do...

(given I don't have something that causes much problems anymore, so it really probably wouldn't change much or help much, and others probably wouldn't really notice a change, except maybe I'd read more and appear to be better at listening..)

now if I could make certain very annoying symptoms disappear, especially without training or practicing or stuff, that'd be great! :D ...

  • 6.2: if I could go back in time and make it so I never had it: ...
Spoiler

unlike now, where it only occasionally comes and tries and hits you, but ends up usually only really being annoying, when I was young it caused me major issues and is responsible for probably a really large chunk of bad memories... But exactly for that reason I would not, for all the money in the world, go back in time and cure myself, because by curing myself and making life as a kid in school easier, I'd completely change many many many of the experiences I had as a kid, and therefore me, as I am right now, would no longer exist, and I like who I am, I don't want to not exist...

7.) It doesn't really effect me much anymore, I've also luckily had therapy from Kindergarten through to 10th grade, so...

8.) yeah, it's a thing you're born with, and seeing as I started showing signs even before I started school (which is were the major signs tend to first show up), I'm gonna have to say, yeah, I'm pretty sure I was born with a messed up brain :P ...

I was diagnosed for the first time in second grade though, and then again in the 5th and 7th grade...

1) i have a physical disability, dyskinetic cerebral palsy but it is mild. it is a form of brain damage but the affect is my co-ordination

2) just the one. i did completed whether my skin problem, rosacea should but decided not to do so.

3) it could be sometimes tricky

4) person first

5) ace

6) no, because it is mild, i think it is ok.

7) see no. 6

8. I actually answered this one incorrectly , i was diagnosed with this at the age of 10 so answered 6-10. however, i would have been born with it.

Physical disability:

I was born with cerebral paresis. Almost 3 months ahead on the given date.  They even managed to damage my vocal chords only a few days later while they had to put me on artificial respiration as my lungs stopped working some day in the middle of the night. Most of my organs hadn't reached it's full capacity yet back then.

Mental illness:

I was diagnosed of CPTSD in October 2016

2. Seven or eight

3. Sometimes tricky. I've learned to live with what I have.

4. No preference.

5. Ace

6. I'd keep my BHJS, otherwise get rid of the rest.

7. Four

8. Seven

Not gonna list all my mental & physical health issues/concerns here, but strangely enough i wouldn't use a magic wand to take them away. Not that they define who i am,but they're.... Just.... There now. I'm more used to coping & working hard to keep myself together. And i honestly don't believe i deserve such relief

1. Mental: Depression and anxiety

Physical: Hypoglycemic, mild scoliosis(not enough to affect my life but I have been technically diagnosed with it), and I also seem to have eczema on the back of my neck.

2. 5

3. My eczema I have a lot of trouble with. I've tried many things and have gone to a doctor for it, but it still won't go away. The other things haven't been that hard for me to access resources and stuff for.

4. No preference

5. Ace

6. Yes for both physical and mental.

7. 3 I guess. I have to take medication for my mental illnesses every day and still have some symptoms, I have to eat a protein filled snack or meal every few hours that I'm awake and can't consume too much caffeine(which sucks because I really like coffee) or simple carbs, and the back of my neck is always itching, but at least I can function for the most part.

8. My depression and anxiety have been around for as long as I can remember(so I voted "born this way"). I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 13 or 14. Eczema came about when I was in my early 20's. I had a few hypoglycemic episodes when I was a kid, but it got worse in my early 20's.

1. Mental disability: depression and eating disorder

Physical: migraines, eating disorder might fall under this too?

Other: my memory and concentration is slightly impaired

2. Four

3. Depends. Some are easy others are tricky. I deal with a couple entirely on my own.

4. No preference

5. Gray

6. Yes for physical and mental. I'm pretty much used to my memory and concentration issues and don't mind them as much anymore. Inconvenient, but not awful.

7. Eating disorder and depression have a pretty big impact on my life, understandably.

8. 1 to 2 years old. My memory and concentration issues are probably linked to having had bacterial meningitis when I was around that age.

1. Mental illness (oh crap... deep breath), ok:

  • Major Depression
  • PTSD
  • OCD (mainly Pure O)
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Social Anxiety Disorder
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Avoidant Personality Disorder
  • Eating Disorders and body dysmorphia
  • Traits of Dependent Personality Disorder, and manic depression
  • Other stuff that I'm not sure where it would fit in the above diagnoses.

Physical illnesses:

  • Hyperhydrosis
  • Unknown gastrointestinal problems
  • Brain injury

Other: (I don't really want to add this but I will.)

  • Nearly diagnosed Asperger's
  • Nearly diagnosed ADD

2. I'll put the number at 10.

3. Extremely difficult, I have no friends or social life, I am unable to work, and rarely able to leave the house, and other stuff. And they are life threatening.

4. I have no preference.

5. Pretty sure I'm an ace.

6. F**K YEAH!!!

7. 5 a massive impact, again they are life threatening.

8. My mental illness(es) began when I was 3-4 along with hyperhidrosis and the gastrointestinal problems. I was diagnosed with the mental illnesses after being institutionalized at eleven and even more recently now that I am 18. The brain injury is a result of self-harm behaviors, and this behavior started at age three or four, I don't know exactly when it became in the category of "brain injury" but it shows up on scans.

1. Ok, here we go...

Mental illness:

  • Social Anxiety Disorder (Admittedly self-diagnosed, but it's pretty obvious I have it...)
  • Depression
  • Psychological issues (Probably from childhood)

Physical disability:

  • Crappy legs (Yet to be diagnosed)

Learning disability:

  • Aspergers Syndrome

Other:

  • Auditory Processing Disorder (Suspected - awaiting further tests)

2. That makes it about 6.

3. Sometimes tricky. (Given my issues, I can't do a lot by myself, including finding help)

4. No preference.

5. Grey, I guess.

6. I'd get rid of everything besides my Aspergers. It's integral to my personality, and that's not something I'd be willing to change.

7. 4 out of 5, I'd say. I quit school about 4 or 5 years ago, and I've been stuck doing nothing ever since. Only just starting to get things back on track.

8. I was born with my Aspergers, and probably my crappy legs and APD too. My mental illnesses developed after the age of about 8.

I have Schizoid, Bipolar, Anxiety,  OCD tendancies and Body dysmorphia.

I didn't know if I should put this in physical, or developmental disorder. I have a disorder called Apraxia. I can control it for the most part now. How my brain organizes speech, reading, and reading aloud isn't normal. It gets all jumbled, and I stutter, or can't talk.

Im probably an Aspie, but never got tested.

I don't care what people call me.

Im Ace and Aro.

I would love to be cured.

My combination impacts my social life quite a bit, and my love life is practically hell. I am far better off than most people though.

I knew I was different since as far back as I could remember. My mental illnesses didnt show up till the Stockholm syndrom wore off after years of oppression. (Bipolar and anxiety). Im sure I've been schizoid my whole life.

1. Mental illness:
-Generalized Anxiety

-OCD (dermatillomania)

-Dysphoria

Developmental disability:
-Asperger's Syndrome

Physical impairments:

-Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

-Scoliosis

Other:

-Semantic-Pragmatic disorder (ASD symptom)

-Some undiagnosed sensory processing disorder (Also ASD symptomatic)

2. About 6, I guess? Not sure whether to count the "other" ones as their own or a part of the developmental part

3.Easy... now that I actually know what's wrong... because before diagnosis? Nobody helped me with anything. I've got some bitterness about that for sure...

4. Identity first. Don't try and separate me from something hardwired into me, as if there's some magical "normal" version of me lurking deep in the recesses of my mind that can be freed with positive thinking and a vegan diet <_<

5. Bisexual aromantic

6. I don't know. It's not that simple.

7. Pretty big impact.

8. I was certainly born autistic. That and being trans may have predisposed me to the mental health issues. The scoliosis was puberty-onset, and EDS is congenital too.

1. Physical (spina bifida), LD (dysnomia), definite developmental deficit (which I assume would be classified as a DD). This relates to me being behind socially and sexual, which does have to do with my physical disability, and the difficulties and discrimination that go with it.

2. See above. Also, SB-related hydrocephalus.

3. Resources: well, the web has been wonderful to learn about my own disabilities. The Spina Bifida Association used to be great. It held conferences yearly, but has fallen on hard financial times, apparently, as well as trouble getting anybody to host these conferences (last year, the National was at the DoubleTree Bloomington, MN). As for in my community, there is no SBA chapter, but there is something similar, but they cater to parents and minors. There is a spinal clinic, but no SB clinic.

4. Identity-first for longhand, and person first for shorthand ("PWD" makes a nice acronym that doesn't reek of being PC).

5. I am sexual. Romantically, I'm not sure. I need to learn more about that spectrum. But I am happily single and childless.

6. I don't care about my physical disability, but my LD can be hard and my developmental impairments, while interesting (and newly discovered) are maddening at times.

7. My disabilities shape how I do things, and how I am accepted. They impact me every second.

8. SB and hydro is from birth. My developmental impairments seem to mostly have evolved slowly to the present, but likely from birth.

2. Just one

3. Not that hard, I've been lucky to have a lot of support in school.

4. I have no problem with referring to myself as an "autistic person", and I don't see the need for person-first language.

5. Asexual

6. No, I feel it makes me who I am.

7. I put 3. It does impact me a lot in terms of socialization and achieving typical milestones, but I feel I'm lucky to have fairly good mental functioning.

8. From birth

It’s okay, it’s not very well known. DPD is similar to DID, except there are no other personalities forming because of the dissociation. They are both dissociative disorders. Dissociation is a very common human coping mechanism to emotional trauma— most people have dissociated at some point in their life. DPD happens when the person either voluntarily or involuntarily dissociates so much that it starts happening spontaneously (when it is not needed) or at very small emotional upsets instead of the large ones that it originally coped with. Does that make sense?

I have CFS  (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) wich is currently stable, PDD-NOS (Developemental disorder), Cylindrical eye disorder (about 60% view) and i had feet surgery to be able to walk. I also belonged to the hearing impaired when i was a child but had surgery at a real early age so i can hear very well now. I have an exzemateous skin as a result of PUVA treatement for a skin disease so i get skin meds for them such as ointements or pills. I also have PLME wich i have special sun gel for that allows me to wear anything in the hot sun without having to use a rash guard.

THEN

Born premature at 700g .

Had emergency surgery to close valves (using clips) near lungs to prevent flooding .

Long term intubation caused my septum to be severly damaged and as a result became very thin .

Intubation also caused damage to my vocal chords , making my voice all rapsy and low . People will always mistake me as having a sore throat due to my voice (and it seems that it is pretty easy for me to loose my voice without even trying) .

Have a scar on my face due to medical tape used and scar on my back due to the surgery .

Doctors said due to my brains being not fully developed (so are my lungs) , I have studying disabilities when it comes to reading (early stages) , sequencing (like putting a story together for example) and numbers/science stuff .

Lungs are weak , dependent on Ventolin for most of my life since I was a toddler (around 4 or 5) until I was 17 or so .

NOW

Undiagnosed . Dealing with a number of mental health issues . Depression and anxiety being key . Also dealing with Automatic Negative Thoughts Syndrome (ANTS) and low self esteem . Dealt with SH before . Recovering from that . Have modd swings (may be Bipolar) and sometimes it seems that my symptoms may point to BPD . Recent months may be experiencing PTSD symptoms (triggers) due to loss . And Introvertness (I don't know if it counts but I am just including it) .

Insomniac (since I was 5) .

Frequent headaches (either migraines or tension) .

Frequent dizziness .

Just a mess in general .

I'd have a clearer idea of what does and doesn't fit if my parents hadn't been so emotionally repressed and only able to express their emotions in more dysfunctional ways(not saying they were THAT bad, but they were weird) that they obviously didn't want to address their own issues. But either way I've gone between identifying with too many things, I think I'm mainly autistic(kind of aspie/HFA/NVLD, maybe, I'm waiting to go for an assessment so we'll see). Plus some social anxiety/depression, a dash of auditory processing difficulty, and whatever else there is I don't really know. The main thing which proves a barrier to getting help is the above parents not thinking there was anything wrong(one being egotistic as hell and the other stressing herself out with three jobs at once) so trying to seek a diagnosis for stuff as an adult doing a PhD who's socially anxious.

I have autism and some kind of hearing disability which will finally be diagnosed soon. I was born with both of them. I also have depression, which I wasn't born with.

I'd like to get rid of the depression. And while autism and my hearing do get in my way all the time, I don't think I'd change it. But it would be nice to be able to talk to people and understand what they say. If hearing aids are an option to help me, I'd definitely use them.

This poll is being locked and moved to the read only Census archive for it's respective year. As part of ongoing Census organization, and in an attempt to keep the demographics of the polls current with the active user base at the time, the polls will last for one year from now on. However, members are allowed and even encouraged to re-start new polls similar to the archived ones if they like them.
