probably, many things do, or at least something similar will almost definitely come, like when I was in school we had pet erasers...

why are sloths so often considered cute, but aye-ayes aren't and instead considered creepy?....

Spoiler

aye-aye-baby.jpg

it's gotta be one of the most adorable animals out there!...

(and I don't like calling things cute....)

Probably because it has bug-eyes, bat ears, jagged claws, and looks like it has mange.

...Yeah, I don't find it cute.

Why do we work so hard to save the panda? Nearly everything about its design suggests its meant to die off. Terrible diet, terrible mating patterns, terrible camouflage.

If scientists are so hung up on evolution, shouldn't there be "Don't Save the Pandas" bumper stickers?

because they are "cute".. and get a lot of funding for that reason, not to say they shouldn't be helped, but there are so many animals that need help so much more and are more important to the survival of their ecosystems... and those ones do get helped, with some of the funds going to pandas, but not enough, because many donators are more concerned about the cuteness of relatively useless and significantly more expensive pandas :( ...

To keep you from going blind from staring at lightbulbs all night.

Why do people insist on making other people "smile more?" Not everyone shows their teeth when they smile. Some people have a large nose that hooks down when they attempt to smile that way and then they look terrible.

Smiling is meant to be an open invitation, it makes people feel more comfortable and friendly, therefore they want others to smile as well.

Why are so many people afraid of death or the very word of it?

because it is an unknown, and people tend to fear what they don't know..

why do cleaning agents, like dish soap, often smell like citrus?

RhuinHruda

Because citrus oil is a natural solvent, useful in various cleaners and such. Also, it smells really good. Many products probably don't contain real citrus oil, but we so strongly associate the smell with cleaning that including the smell in a product will probably increase our perception of how well the product cleans.

Why do you think cats like string so much? Even the stuff that's not moving, like if it's just on the floor or hanging from a doorknob?

why do marshmellows look like pillows?

(Answering Rhuins question, but one possibility is because he was associated with bringing plagues, there is a chance that they feared him the most)

Marshmellows are actually giants ear plugs.

Why do big animals like Hippos and Elephants have such small tails?

Because they pass such giant stools

Why did humans loose their prehensile tails as they evolved?

What made you think they were lost?  As a Stunt Pigeon, I can't say, but I heard Ms Terry sent hers back to the manufacturer and demanded a full refund!

So, what was the deal with the "CERN-Hadron-Collider-will-cause-a-black-hole-in-the-center-of-the-earth-and-we're-all-gonna-die" hysteria?

Simple answer is that the mass media don't understand the laws of physics.

By firing subatomic particles into each other at light speed and energy levels beyond those which can be created naturally, the highest TeV levels ever created artificially, the aim was to smash electrons into the smallest sub-atomic particles ever created, ideally the elusive Higgs-Boson which current theoretical physics believes is the particle all matter is created from. The mass media, aided and abetted by a few learned people who didn't want CERN to exist created a scare story based upon plausible but inaccurate physics that these particles, if they existed, would have near infinite density, therefore a near infinite gravity causing a self breeding reaction as when a star implodes to create a cosmic black hole. The reality is that the nanoattraction concerned just causes the shattered particles to reunite quickly, making them very short lived and hard to detect.

No, because the same basic features are being regurgitated over and over in the different types of models of phones with slight modifications. Add laser beams into the phone or something.

You just get a regular balloon and fill it with, like, air from outside when it's 90 degrees or so out there. Pretty easy stuff.

It's a treasured secret- I'll let you in on because you SEEM trustworthy-enough. 🤐 It's all retribution for the pains they were put through... Thus they continue the sick cycle of what we sane individuals fear.....wretched homework 🤢.

Or it's to keep the kids too busy to question why adults make the rules- & from revolting to overthrow illl-placed authority?

They exist. The problem is that unless moving forward with wings generating aerodynamic lift (Bernoulli effect) the power needed to raise the vehicle off the ground will a) use an inordinate amount of fuel and b) create a downwash that could be harmful to the environment, think of a helicopter taking off.

Super cooled liquid. It slowly moves down the window pain so in older houses the glass is thicker at the bottom then the top.

Should we invest money in businesses or charity's?

How about investing in truly-rounded education for all? A learned populace world-wide would inevitably lead to societies that embrace egalitarian principles, which in turn, would benefit every living organism in this planet, as well as preserving the planet as a habitable one.

Where did the Cello originate?

RhuinHruda

Cellos were derived from other mid- to large-sized bowed instruments in the 16th century, such as the viola da gamba, and the generally smaller and squarer viola da braccio, and such instruments made by members of the Amati family of luthiers.

The invention of wire-wound strings (fine wire around a thin gut core), around 1660 in Bologna, allowed for a finer bass sound than was possible with purely gut strings on such a short body. Bolognese makers exploited this new technology to create the cello, a somewhat smaller instrument suitable for solo repertoire due to both the timbre of the instrument and the fact that the smaller size made it easier to play virtuosic passages[citation needed]. This instrument had disadvantages as well, however. The cello's light sound was not as suitable for church and ensemble playing, so it had to be doubled by organ, theorbo or violone.

What do you think the defense is for old movies/comedians/jokes/etc. that are misogynistic/homophobic/racist that people defend with "it was a different time?" Do you think it's a fair criticism or an acceptable explanation? And does watching those types of things or counting them as art/classics provide justification for the flaws?

Link to post

I think that if there is any kind of "defense" for such, it lies in how the records preserved in those mediums stand as testament of our changing ideals, which have been steadily accelerating towards the truly egalitarian (present last-gasp regression by some political powers notwithstanding) for the last decades where, previously, such change seems to have often taken centuries -if not millennia- to progress.

On that vein...why do you think that, historically, the masses have always endured such prolonged periods of oppression, before finally taking change into their "own hands", as it were...

Link to post

for multiple reasons: people tend to be good at adapting, so they'll just get used to oppression. Oppressive regimes tend to come into power not just suddenly, they take time, slowly become worse and worse with people not noticing what's happening. A lot of people are probably not being all that terribly effected by oppressive regimes. It takes guts to stand up to an oppressor, and most people just don't have the guts (which isn't a bad thing, some people are more or less brave then others..). Oppressive regimes tend to limit ability to "stand up" to them, by for example making their masses poor, taking away freedoms, installing police forces like for example the stasi, and encourage people to rat others out with builds an amount of distrust and stuff... in almost all cases, I would think it would be a mix out of these and maybe some others...

--> so why: the ability of adaptation, fear, distrust and lack of bravery...

why are goldfish so popular as a pet? they are expensive due to needing a large tank, gobies should be more popular, or many other types of small fish, they're smaller and therefore need a smaller tank and take less care then goldfish...

Link to post

I've never known of anyone who bought a large tank specifically for goldfish, so that's probably why. Most people don't realize they need one. The fish themselves and their food are cheap and people don't realize how much care they need to have a proper, full life. They figure they're just fish, who cares if they die?

Is there ever a good way to tell someone that their art is terrible?

Link to post

Probably not. But there are gradients in the manner of giving one's honest opinion...and it would truly be an opinion since art is, by its very nature, defined in the 'eye of the beholder', if you will.

Have you ever truly contemplated doing violence to another being and, if you did not, what stopped you from pursuing such a course?
