As usual the BBC exit poll is showing others at 18 seats :D

Serious question for british people, those others at 18 seats are all northern Ireland seats.

What attention in the British media in general is given to the northern Irish seats?

I've been watching BBC1's coverage of the election and as far as I know (I'm not paying loadsss of attention), NI hasn't really been mentioned yet.

Another question, has the answer to this question changed in the aftermath of the poll?

Is one of the top UK google search result "who are the DUP?" And "what are the policies of the DUP?"

Which open democracy has an answer for

I've started to call her Theresa Mayhem.. and the DUP are not a party I would vote for if I lived in Northern Ireland; some of them call gay people disgusting etc..., they are against gay marriage, abortion  under all circumstances, against doing something about global warming and quite a few are creationists... hmm... it's going to be interesting, or more interesting still. In the meantime, the clock is ticking....

We're already betting how long it'll take till May has to leave...

I think the only good choice at the moment would be Larry the cat.

If the DUP are creationists that will suit TM down to the ground, as she believes the world was created in seven days, and she can end it in one

#WorstPrimeMinisterInHistory is trending about her on twitter and yet I bet she'll still cling on by her fingertips. It might reach the point where her own party give her a the Jezza C treatment and try to push her out.

The front page headline on The Times is five ministers calling for BJ to launch a leadership challenge

Let Paul Gascoigne do it. He would be the perfect face to illustrate the situation.

Can George Osborne's grin get any wider?  Saw him on Andrew Marr show - he was so delighted with it all!  The Tories are definitely living up to their reputation as the nasty party right now.

It was amazing how things changed during the campaign.  At the start a lot of the people I know where thinking of voting tory for the first time ever, but by the end May had put them off so much that they voted Labour.  The Labour vote was a kind of coalition between people who voted Labour despite Jeremy Corbyn, and those who voted Labour because of him.

If we're not careful the EU will impose tariff free exports to the UK, a ban on imports from the UK, free movement of EU nationals to and from the UK, a total ban on UK nationals entering the EU, a ban on UK banking and finance operating within the EU, and we'll be too busy trying to form a government to notice that this has gone on :P

Glad to see Phillip Davies kept his seat, though it would have been nice if Jess Phillips lost hers.

Young people can't seem to win when it comes to voting - if we don't vote we're judged and told "This is why politicians don't care about young people's issues" and when we do vote in large numbers we're told that we were "bribed by the promise of free tuition. I thought students were supposed to be smart."  What about those people who aren't planning to go to university, why did they vote? It's a bit of a mystery - they're not going to have any fees, but obviously university and fees is the only thing young people care about; no other issue will possibly persuade them to vote. <_<

Honestly I doubt that anyone would change their vote (or be persuaded to vote if they weren't going to already) on the basis of a single issue.

The tories are just using the tuition fees thing as an excuse - so they can imply that people who voted Labour are stupid.

What about the (mainly tory) Leave Campaign?  That seemed to promise quite a few free goodies as I remember.

I think that a big factor was that Labour offered a message of hope and better days ahead.  The Maybot offered a future of despair.  It wasn't just the personalities involved, but the manifestos as a whole - not just a single issue.  I heard Nigel Evans (tory MP) on the radio the other day - he said that the only thing missing from the Conservative Manifesto was compulsory euthanisia for the over 70's!

My friend at work did change her vote on a single issue.  One day she was voting Tory, then the Maybot announced she was pro fox hunting.  Friend went back to Labour...

I saw someone saying they don't trust young people to vote because we grew up in an age of propaganda.

You know, the ones who all have access to a smart phone/laptop and the internet, can read a huge variety of sources other than the local papers, can research into what's reliable and what's biased... Clearly we've just been brainwashed and don't know anything compared to 75 year old Betty who's been reading the Daily Mail since she was 18.

I'm not going to uni, and I still voted labour. My friends who are going to uni had a lot to say why they were voting labour, and against tories, and there was a lot more to it than tuition fees.

Not like the old people only vote tories 'cause "Corbyn's a dirty socialist", or those who voted UKIP solely for Brexit.

I'm spent the entire election reading Wheat memes and making Theresa Maize jokes.

Priorities: On point.

This thread has been useful to me (besides being interesting) to figure out which AVEN members lived in the UK.

The Terrible Travis

Jeremy Corbyn now leads for who voters believe would make the best Prime Minister.

What I found interesting was what the world thought of our election.

https://goodcountry.org/global-vote/elections/united-kingdom

Based on that people have no faith in May whatsoever.

What I'm worried about (apart from an unelected government...) Is how badly this will hurt EU negotiations, I voted to remain (purely because I couldn't see us getting a good deal) and our first offer was way to considerate and the EU brushed it off. We have a barely stable government and terrible negotiation skills. I think it's time to leave this sinking rock before it gets far worse.

[Edit] So the Brexit team are basicly saying "We are leaving the EU, but we want EU citizens to be on a register and carry ID cards..." Excuse me, but since when are we treating EU citizens like Hitler treated the Jews? On top of that the Tories spent £1 billion of our money on a deal to stay in power. £1 billion, here we are cutting costs to the NHS, the police, schools and public services but lets throw money to make sure we stay in power... Someone needs to sort these corrupt muppets out.
