Approaching an asexual?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I came to your community to ask for some help, guys :(

I'm personally a bisexual person. I have a very good friend, we talk almost every day and just hang out all the time.
And i've been often looking at him in a romantic way, we even joke about that from time to time. I know for sure that he's asexual. I'm afraid to somehow try to approach him; I don't want to ruin our friendship.

What do I do? I have know idea if he's interested in any kind of relationship, or what gender he can possibly be interested in.
Thank you in advance.

Well, the first thing to do is to find out whether or not he's romantically interested in anyone. If that feels like an awkward question to you it's probably because you're developing feelings. He's more likely to be fine with talking about it, because it'll mean that you're genuinely curious about his orientation. :) If he says he's aromantic then you'll have to carry on as best you can and do whatever you usually do when you get hurt in the game of love. If it turns out that he's into guys . . . well, that's different. :)

I agree that it might be better to find out his romantic orientation and attitudes about realtionships before you put too much effort into trying to approach him in a romantic way. Some asexual people enjoy being in romantic relationships, while others do not, and how he takes your advances might be heavily influenced by that. Once you have some amount of confidence that he's interested in a romantic relationship then I'd say approach him like you would anyone else. In general sexual-asexual relationships are very similar to relationships between two sexuals, except that there might be a higher amount of sexual compromise. :)
