The very long hair fashion

I wouldn't say very long hair is the fashion, at least not where I live. It seems like middle-aged white women opt for a more practical short-haired look, while younger white women range in length depending on subculture stuff I guess... punks and lesbians often will have short hair, while more traditionally feminine women wear their hair long. Most white men have short hair. I know a lot of black women who have short hair, usually butch lesbians, but it's very common for black women where I live to wear their hair long and dye it bright colors. I've also noticed black men that have very long hair. Most of the Native Americans I know (both men and women) wear their hair long. So I think a lot of it has to do with age and with race - and then, of course, just stylistic preference. I've been trying to grow my hair out long for years, but when I'm manic and bored, looking for ways to burn off energy, if there's a razor around I usually end up cutting my hair. I buy lots of wigs because I look so horrible with a shaved head, lol.

Aha, it mightbe that where I live it's just extremely uniform in terms of ethnicity, and we don't really have subcultures and stuff. But metalhead guys, they have long hair.

Also, it's true, guys look even more alike usually. But no, not really, I'd say. There is a certain "generic girl" and "generic dude" look.

With the drubbing I've taken with health issues and to my professional life lately, I really should cut my hair and look for another job. But that just seems like giving up the last inch of myself in surrender to the cis world that doesn't admit people like me.

For all the big talk about freedom and individuality........

When I was young, I wanted long hair and got mad if my mom forced me to cut it. When I reached secondary school, my hair grew out to about mid-back length.

This. When I tell people that my mom and my grandma tried to force me to keep my hair short, they don't believe me, especially because people see me as female (I'm still questioning my gender). Even now, my mom regularly tells me that my hair is too long. It's currently mid-back length. I'm 16.

When long hair gets complicated to manage because it is so thick, you could think about an undercut. You won't see the undercut when you're wearing your hair down, but it makes it easier to brush and style.

I cut my hair down once, about chin-length, and it simply felt wrong. I feel more comfortable with long hair, so long hair it is.

I have really thick hair and used to have layers when I was a kid. They just didn't work, so I grew them out. I have to wear my hair up for school so an undercut might be too obvious, at least for now. My hair gets poofy when it's above shoulder length, so my options are either a pixie cut or long hair. I don't have time to get my hair cut every 4--6 weeks, so like you said... long hair it is! Plus, my friends seem to like my hair :D
