SleepyFox Posted January 9, 2017 Share Posted January 9, 2017 every time one of my really close friends gets a new boyfriend or girlfriend I try to be happy for them, it's just there's a small part of me that feels sad because in my experience people prioritise partner-relationships much higher than friendships. I don't know what hurts more: the amount of effort you put into it or the fact that you know that this friend doesn't reciprocate this effort to same extent. Topi Posted January 11, 2017 Share Posted January 11, 2017 So I have this childhood friend and we lost contact for years, because I had to leave, when I got to university. Then last year out of nowhere he started to text me every single day. At first I was happy, then got tired, but still talked to him with enthusiasm and all. For months, we had this texting thing going and I thought he really wanted to get our friendship to what it was before. However, he was always messing with me asking questions about bathing together and sleeping together and all that things. I always said no, in a playful manner (since I knew he was kidding), but still felt uncomfortable. I said from the start I didn't what a relationship, but he was always trying to ask me on dates and to be friends with benefits. Then all of a sudden stopped texting and today on Facebook, I found out he was dating someone. I'm happy for him, it was his wish and I knew it, but still he could at least told me. Well, at least now I know I will not have to talk with him and I feel relieved. I was feeling really suffocated with the situation. When I didn't say anything, he would go all victim that nobody liked him and all. It made me feel bad and pressured to talk with him. This with us being friends, I can't think if it was more than friendship. Actually, I was thinking of stopping this and had already eliminated all texts we had exchanged, so this was perfect.
