Jamba
I'll start off by saying this post might be too much for some people so if you don't like talk about porn, and masturbation please don't read. There really is no way to sugar coat what I'm going to say so I'm just gonna get stuck into it. I use to masturbate quite frequently and I've always thought of masturbation as quick disgusting (not necessarily the act, just the whole "mess" of it) but I could never stop doing it for some reason. I figured I would try to find out why that is and I am currently doing "NoFap" (no porn, no masturbation at all) and am about a week in (probably the longest I've gone since puberty) and I have literally no need to masturbate at all. Thinking back I found that the only reason I would masturbate is because I would look at porn (don't ask me why I would look at porn, I really don't know) and without looking at porn, there is literally no desire to masturbate. I was wondering if this is common amongst asexuals/people with a low libido or if it might be a side affect of quitting masturbation cold turkey. The whole reason I am posting this is because since starting "NoFap" I've been hanging around the subreddit and no one else seems to mention this, I've searched for an explanation but haven't found one and am hoping I can find one here. Thanks.
Guest
It doesn't create it, but it does jumpstart it. Not to be too personal, but I find it easier to sleep if I've, you know, had some private time, but I'm rarely "in the mood". I know if I turn on porn that'll take care of it. Given that you're asexual, it makes sense to me that nothing else would jumpstart your libido like porn does.
Memento1
Being that I'm somewhere in the gray area, I notice both in myself. Except erotica (in the form of fanfiction) is what does it for me, not porn. If I stumble upon smut in a fic, that can set off a desire to masturbate where there was none before. But sometimes the desire just comes out of nowhere, with no seeming trigger.
KulkulkanX
I don't doubt that indulging in porn can boost libido. It at least priovides fodder for the fatasies that I get off too. I don't see this as a negative, though. I don't drink alcohol much or do any drugs, and a little personal message is a minor indulgence, as far as I'm concertned. Kuebiko
It doesn't, at least, for me. If watching porn really created libido, I wouldn't still have zero libido. So. Yeah.
touching-not-so-much
It might encourage or assist it, but no, the body in most people has a natural set of processes, mental and physical, and babies are one example that there is no external creative stimulus. There are people that "discovered" and enjoyed onanism quite without any specifically created media, both in modern times and ancient. This is like saying food creates the desire to eat it - it's a natural occurrence in the vast majority of people. That's a little oversimplified and not a perfect analog but it is the same gist. Tanzanite
At least in my case, no. I was too busy laughing at the "acting" and "story"
One Winged Angel
Perchance the PMO (to use NoFap's lexicon) could be in some cases a habit. The user looks at pornography and masturbates to it, and the two go hand in hand together (no pun). When it is quit, the habit begins to die away be replaced with other things. When you look at porn, you spend a lot of time on the sites and think something on lines of "I may as well 'finish' it since I've started." My problem here is that I do not watch pornography and have not done so for many years. I do however know that most NoFap users still engage in sexual intercourse. To use NoFap and have no release at all is called "hard mode", and many NoFap users do not use this mode. A lot of men, Asexual or not, would still feel the need to masturbate even without the use of porn. They may refer to it as "cleaning the pipes" or similar, and site the alleged benefits to the prostrate.
Philip027
No. It might help it along, if it was already there (but just inactive) but in most cases of people without a libido, if you show them porn, they could react in anything from disgust, to indifference, to amusement... but probably not arousal. Guest
It doesn't for me, I could watch porn and be like... not interested/no reaction. I do however "clean the pipes" as one winged angel calls it. However I need my imagination to be able to. Or reflect my imagination onto the porn I would watch... Imagination alone is enough for me though...
Ramiel
I don't think so. I get the "urge" without watching porn, and watching porn itself doesn't really do anything unless I'm already turned on.
Guest
Oh joy sex toy made a great post about this when they featured a review of the the book "the sex myth" I highly suggest checking it out!
Skycaptain
The innate desire for genital stimulation is libido, which porn doesn't affect. Wanting this to take place there and then is arousal, which porn can assist in
Telecaster68
It's a bit like asking 'does listening to music create dancing'.

I don't think about anything rude and often I'll watch smut or rude stuff that I don't care about and my brain just blanks it. But then sometimes I'll just notice something and it sets it off.
