so much hate ...

You mean the number of dislikes? I couldn't see any comments but I'm on my phone which doesn't like YouTube...

Well, you gotta remember that there are a hell of a lot of homophobic, transphobic etc people on YouTube and the only kick they get out of life is by spreading that fear and hatred. The internet is often their only outlet, because they know that doing stuff in the real world is wrong. They're cowardly, and there'll always be something that people hate.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize that they disabled the comment section. They literally had to disable it the comments got so bad. There were mostly ignorant comments like "there's only 3 genders, 1 male, 2 female, 3 mentally disturbed". Haters gonna hate indeed o_o

I actually saw two videos basically bitching about this video being "anti God", satanic and part of the illuminati (new world agenda, a call for an uprising, and the vigilant Christian). There's a ton of hate on YouTube, but I promise, it's all mostly harmless. I hesitate to even call it hate. I watch a lot of it to just see what's out there. Once you face it like that, it seems a lot more harmless. Honestly I find a lot of it to be hilarious. Like, dude, I am trans and I don't spend as much time as you getting all worked up about it. Chill. Go outside.

But as always, it's important to let these people speak. Let them spew their hate. Most people see it as the hate it is and will shun them. Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

I disliked the video too for two simple reasons:

  • YouTube is misusing its role as a leading video sharing website for political and ideological propaganda. It shows no respect for its users who doesn't agree with this message.
  • Proud and pride are inadequate words because they can also mean "a feeling that you are more important or better than other people".

I heard that it was just 4chan trolling the place. I wouldn't take any notice. It was pretty bad.

I had to stop watching any kind of news and reading about it on the Internet-- a lot of days I'm having to go to work being ill physically and crying only makes my condition worse. It just ripped me up emotionally too bad and made the physical symptoms And there's pletnty of ignorant people working there who say things that makes them sound like crypto apologists, such as "It was God's punishment". Then I recalled some dialogue from "The Drumhead", an episode of Star Trek: TNG:

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again. Lieutenant Worf: [referring to Admiral Satie] I believed her. I, I helped her. I did not see what she was.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Mister Worf, villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged.

Lieutenant Worf: I think... after yesterday, people will not be so ready to trust her.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Maybe. But she, or someone like her, will always be with us, waiting for the right climate in which to flourish, spreading fear in the name of righteousness. Vigilance, Mister Worf - that is the price we have to continually pay.

:::: Sighs::::: It sometimes seems that we have to pay in perpetuity.

where did you hear this?

But yeah, that's youtube for you, most of the comments were about how "there are only two genders", but it's nice to see a lot of prominent figures in the youtube community making videos talking about it like onision, stef sanatji, kat blaque and other people who were featured in the video.

I mean I really don't understand why anyone would care, get outraged like? I mean someone identifying as agender bigender, genderfluid, non-binary, Ace, ice cream or whatever literally affects them in no way, like some people get outraged about using they as a pronoun like it's some grand task, but yeah, youtube.

I'll just "lol" at the ignorant people shouting the word "censorship" like they know what it is.

The amount of vast and profound ignorance of the basic principles of liberty and democracy are overwhelming. I'd like to revoke them the right to vote, but it would probably be shouted off as "FASCIST!" or some other word the ignorant people would pick and copy/paste.

1895, gay were incarcerated for being gay, no trans men/women publicly existed, world still has to bear 2 world wars:

John Stuart Mill:

the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others

And as always:

The right to swing my arms in any direction ends where your nose begins.

Either they think it's funny to treat gender identity like they treat their 4chan's topics (because there are bunches of trolls around) or either they don't care at all.
Either way, I respect a little more Youtube (so if they were at -100 before this, they're now at -99, still, a great step forward) and "propaganda" and "testing political influence" are smoke in your eyes, the fact that you're presented with the informed and EXPERIENCED opinion of people on an argument doesn't obscure your right and will to judge. If tomorrow they do a video about "let's smoke cigarettes together for the greater good #proudtosmoke" you can be sure there wouldn't be any serious influence done 'cause of the underwhelming pressure of the informed opinions.

However, you can indeed influence the way someone thinks if they aren't/don't want to be informed. And if they can do it, everyone can do it.

So, in the end, don't listen to "YOUTUBE TESTING ITS PROPAGANDA" because it's cospirationist shit.

By these principles they have the right to censure only the offensive comments, and not all of them because some/many are offensive. You would be the first to cry out "FASCIST!" if your president would censure every newspaper because some of them harm him.

Anyways it is their website so they are free to do whatever they wish but it still doesn't look nice.

I'd like to revoke them the right to vote, but it would probably be shouted off as "FASCIST!" or some other word the ignorant people would pick and copy/paste.

Yea, those ignorant democrats, why are they even allowed to vote if they don't agree with you?

I do have to say that censorship and the likes does open to the possibility of political power exertion abuse, and that's not something one should ever encourage at all. Anyways, the video like/dislike and the hate comments confirms my theory that anti-hate speech laws are ultimately ineffective, and haters can always show their hate covertly, and that method does still work.

That very vigilance is something I've thought about a lot. It's like we're putting out bonfires, but using only enough water to kill the flames, and somebody always tries to use the embers to rekindle the same bonfire, or runs off with the embers to start a new bonfire. I watched the Prop 8 thing here in California very closely from the beginning, as it snowballed into the Hollingsworth v. Perry decision that re-legalized marriage equality in California, and as the momentum went national until the Obergefell v. Hodges decision made marriage equality the law of the land. Since the marriage equality opponents can't get enough traction to amend the Constitution to outlaw marriage equality, they're focusing their hate in different directions, such as this asinine debate whether businesses can refuse service on religious grounds, whether we trans folk can use the restroom that most closely matches our identity (binary restrooms still suck for us non-binary folk), and other such ridiculousness. 'What'll it be next week, once we've resolved those issues,' I keep asking myself. Are they coming for us introverts next? Autism? Something we haven't even thought of yet? I always conclude that these "issues" we keep facing are just symptoms of the hate that underlies each movement, and the only remedy I can see that fits with the live-and-let-live philosophy we try to espouse is to keep vigilant and keep putting out the fires.

That, and not letting the seeds of that hatred follow on fertile ground. I think that's part of the vigilance, too, to be there to make sure the seeds keep falling on the rocky parts, to not let them germinate in general, and *especially* not in our own psyches. Because internalized transphobia can be twisted into an ally of that hate, and may make us feel less able to deal with the slander. When it points inward, it damages us more, because we channel that hatred into ourselves. To know we must resist drinking the vintage of the grapes of wrath ourselves if we hope to let the angels of everyone's better natures find the antidotes to these poisons.

Another part of vigilance is not so much one of confrontation, but one of showing out allies that we can articulate what the slander and hatred costs us, being ready in an instant to show them how so very much their help is needed, appreciated and makes them better people, too.

The last part of vigilance is just staying safe. Sometimes whispers perpetuated do more to cancel out the deafening hatred than roars that come on in stutters. To know when discretion is the better part of valor. To know that we can lean on our allies that we so carefully and vigilantly cultivated.
