timewarp
This survey is pretty interesting I think. Looks as if the gender binary is far less deeply rooted than I would have imagined. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/31/masculinity-study-america-men-united-kingdom-yougov
poindexter
British men might simply take themselves less seriously and so be more willing to check something other than 6/completely masculine on a survey. The article seems to shrug it's shoulders at the above suggestion, but I think it's actually on point. I think British people are just less likely to say they are "completely" anything on a survey compared to their American counterparts.
Guest
I fail to see how this references actual masculinity, but it definitely shows how important the concept of masculinity is to American men.
Ricki
It's interesting, but the study is based off 1000 from each country. I'm pretty sure if you asked 1000 people in London or 1000 in York you'd get different stats. ( Or Texas and Ohio).I didn't read it all but 1000 people would barely cover the full amount of a mix in cultures, ethnicities, gender, religion, age, class status etc. Do the same study with 100'000 from each place and I'll accept the results as more reliable, albeit invalid.
