I'm just curious as to how many people actually get into the college they wanted to attend most.

I was accepted, but I couldn't actually afford to go there. I couldn't afford housing in Toronto. I took my 2nd choice.

Yeah. I failed miserably though <.<;

When I first visited my university, a place I truly love, I was served what was without question the worst cup of tea I have ever had the misfortune to politely drink.

Several months after arriving, I discovered that the coffee is equally heinous.

I should have gone to Oxford~

I got into both of the schools I applied to. The first one that I really wanted to go to was about 8-9 hours away from home and too pricey for me. I really didn't want to be too close to home, so I wound up choosing a school that was about 4 hours away (close enough that I can go home or someone can come get me if something comes up, but far enough that I couldn't go home every weekend). I'm glad because it's a lot cheaper and I'm in a position where my dad is able to come and visit and I could go visit my brother and grandparents once in a while since they live a similar distance away. It's absolutely not the perfect school, but the program I'm in is amazing and I've made some damn good memories. Overall, I'm glad I chose this one.

Yes, but I couldn't afford it. I got wonderful scholarships to all the schools I applied to and I still couldn't afford any of them (yay America). I was, of course, stupid and didn't apply to cheap schools. However I found a place to go and it's worked out great. Funny how things happen.

My only regret is that I do wish I had applied to UMD, since it's much closer to my home, and I could have actually brought my plants, I know a professor and it's my absolute favorite city... pero qué será será.

Yeah, I only really applied to one anyway.

I didn't go to college. I didn't apply anywhere. I took some classes at the local community college. But my dream school was NYU (wouldn't have gotten in in a million years let alone afford) and my plan was to eventually go to Long Island University (C.W. Post), which I probably would have gotten into based on my SAT scores.

Okay wait I lied. Oxford would've been my dream. I had a few universities near London I was looking at but I knew I didn't have the money in the end.

No I didn't I was really sad, still a bit bummed about it. But I just need to keep moving, and use the tools I have.

I didn't get into my first choice college for undergrad, but I ended up loving the school I went to, so it worked out :) But I did get into my first choice (post) graduate school, which I am currently attending.

I did! Just graduated from it too!

That's great! What were you studying?

Yes, thankfully I got into my first choice school. Now the issue is choosing a major :P

You didn't base college selection on major? What if you choose a major and the school doesn't have it? Are you just trying to choose one from what they offer?

Going back a long way, but I got into my second choice, because I missed the entry requirements for my first choice by one grade

I waited to select my 4-year university until I had decided on my major for this reason, yes I got into my first choice. Before that I just went to community college, way cheaper to get those lower level classes out of the way.

I enjoy a lot of different subjects. My main criteria for choosing a school were: 1) good music department/ensembles accessible to non-music majors, and 2) a variety of math/science degrees (I wasn't sure if I wanted physics, or maybe even astronomy, geology, or engineering)

I was surprised when I was able to get in. I was that one kid that didn't do much in terms of after school activities and whatnot. All of my hobbies (which not many people know about) were pretty much just me tinkering with things and goofing off. All I did after school was take 2 years of being a part of the fencing club. I'm almost done and should graduate some time this year.

I got into my first choice college, both for undergraduate and graduate studies. However, I was very lucky in that the schools I wanted to go to for both were schools I knew I could get into without a problem.

Kind... of? I was waitlisted for some schools and accidentally got rejected by default from one (guess who didn't understand how the recommendations worked until it was too late for this one), but the one that I liked the best accepted me and that's were I am. I wouldn't really say it was my first choice, since I deliberated a lot when choosing which one I would attend was concerned, but I liked it quite a bit.

I do have a track record of getting into schools I want to go to, even when lotteries are concerned, though.

Lol oh goodness all those years ago..yes I did and it was awesome! I almost miss it in a way, sometimes I wish I could unlearn everything just to learn it all over again. I drank up all the information and craved more <3

No. My first choice was in the UK, and my parents already refused to support me financially before I could even apply. Now, many years later, I'm doing a fully funded PhD in the UK.

I did! I graduated from my top choice university in May 2015, with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Music.

I'm not old enough yet, but I got into my first choice high school. I had the option of a regular high school (2nd choice), a vocational/technical/trade school (1st choice), and a religious high school (nope!). I got into the vocational/technical/trade school, and also my first choice shop choice (business and applied technologies).

I actually did not get into my first choice school for undergrad and ended up going to one of my backup choices. But now I'm working on graduate schools, so, we'll see how that goes.

Won't be able to answer this poll until late next year but I find it highly unlikely i'll get into my dream school. I mean, I'm applying to MIT as an international student, for god's sake! And my grades aren't terribly good.

Also SATs are expensive (as an international student. Like, seriously it's fucking ex) so I'm only going to be taking them once. Here's to hoping and hard work.
