Ecaora Posted February 10, 2016 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Hello. I'm an eighteen-year-old male (cisgender) from Australia. I recently discovered I'm asexual and aromantic. It fits me perfectly. I had previously thought I was bisexual, yet I have always been repulsed by sex and have never had a desire to engage in it with others. I knew that label didn't fit me, and was aware at that time how I shared some aspects with asexuals (not wanting to have sex with others). Yesterday I was browsing Wikipedia and happened to look upon the page on asexuality. I learnt about gray-asexuality and thought I could possibly be that, on account of my ability to be aroused yet lack of desire to have sex (in these early stages of discovery I did not really understand much). However, during my searching, I came across a thread on this forum I soon discovered that I indeed was completely asexual. Now that I know I'm asexual, I can understand why I mistakenly assumed I was bisexual. I erroneously assumed that when I was aroused, that was sexual attraction. However now that I know what sexual attraction actually is (wanting to have sex with someone), and that asexuals can experience arousal; I'm absolutely certain I'm asexual. As I stated in the second line, I'm also aromantic. I have never had a desire to get married or have a girlfriend/boyfriend, I dislike displays of affection (such as kissing, hugging and other forms of non-sexual touching), I find romance scenes in novels and films absolutely boring, and I have never understood why anyone would need relationships any greater than friendship. I've noticed my indifference towards romance for a long time, I just didn't know it was anything greater than a personal quirk. It feels great, finally knowing that there are others who are like me (I had assumed I was some weird mess). I'm partly to blame for finding out so late (I didn't research asexuality and did not understand the basics of sexuality), however it is very reassuring now that I am asexual and aromantic. I went through the same journey of identifying as bi- and then discovering gray-asexuality...and then finally coming here and realizing I'm asexual! I'm glad that you made your way here. Thanks. :) Most people think it's weird I don't like cake, though cheesecake is okay (I don't like the regular sponge type of cake).
