Star Trek, Star Wars (still haven't brought myself to watch any of the newer films)(nostalgia I guess), Tolkien fan, love anything by Anne Rice and Stephen King, anime & manga, Marvel over DC, hmmmmmm....and I think that's about it...nope, can't forget Dr. Who!

So much that I love, all dating back to when I was a mere slip of a girl and watched Lost In Space and movies like It Came From Outer Space and Twenty Million Miles to Earth. Watching - Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who (loved the First Doctor as a little girl and wanted him to be my grandfather), Star Trek, Firefly, Full Metal Alchemist, Penny Dreadful, Game of Thrones, Carnivale, the original Wild Wild West TV show, Westworld (both movie and TV show) - really too many to mention. Reading - sci-fi, steampunk, some fantasy (a little over over sword and sorcery but remain a dedicated Elric of Melniboné fan), magic realism, anything Poe.

I just saw Stranger Things.  I know....I'm behind the times.  It was good and I appreciated all the D&D references.

That show was great! The child actors were all really talented, and I loved the 80s setting.

I'm actually off to a Scifi/Fantasy convention in WIlliamsburg (VA) next weekend.  Todd McCaffery is going to be the writer guest of honor.

I'm a wee bit of a fan of Stargate, Star Wars, Star Trek DS9 and Next Gen, Babylon 5, and lately I've been having a run through of Andromeda.

I love a lot of sci-fi and fantasy stuff. Infact they are my favourite genres in most media (film, TV, games, etc).

One of my favourite shows is Game of Thrones, and it is hugely fantasy-based. I also love Firefly, and loads of sci-fi and fantasy cartoons and anime (Attack on Titan, for example).

Some of my favourite sci-fi and fantasy films include; Pacific Rim, The Neverending Story, Star Wars, Alien, and the Harry Potter series.

I'm also a massive fan of Steampunk and Dieselpunk, especially the latter because I love the periods from the 20's through to the 50's. I really enjoy things from the past, so that's probably why I love the genres so much.

Oh man, I need to come back and read through this entire thread sometime when I don't need to get up at 4:45 am the next day! So many gems, it looks like, and already I've added (for probably the fifth time) Stargate to me "to watch" list. Thanks!

Battlestar another great, although I never got around to watching the prequel Caprica, anyone see that, was it any good?

Battlestar is one of my all time favourites, but someone told me Caprica was no good. I get very emotionally attached to my faves and couldn't bear to be disappointed, so I just ended up avoiding it ... yeah, pretty much no capacity to think for myself I guess :P

Madeleine L'Engle (I grew up on the Wrinkle In Time universe), etc.,

I've also gotten into a few sci-fi podcasts lately, namely Wolf 359 (caught up, suffering through between-season hiatus as we speak) and EOS 10 (only on the first season so far).

Ugh, me too re: Wrinkle... but I reread it just a couple years ago thinking it would be every bit as amazing as I remembered it and... it was not. I was so bummed. At this age I just found hard to look past the very 50s gender dynamics... I dunno. I've got many other beloved fantasy books from when I was a young kid, especially the Black Cauldron series, but I think I'll skip the revisit of that one and just keep it enshrined in my memory!

And thanks for those... I'm always happy to get new podcast recs!

Oh, I loved those! (and several other books by Lloyd Alexander. I think one of his books I read first way back when was Time Cat)

Weren't they great? When that series ended I remember feeling like I'd lost my best friends.

And I've never read Time Cat... But it sounds pretty flippin awesome.

Huge Trekkie, love fantasy/sci-fi in general. Have an active D&D campaign going, play way too many video games, and have collections of pop culture memorabilia (including some really rare stuff), comic books, and jigsaw puzzles. Aside from the pop culture stuff, my telescope is probably my most prized possession. I'm so much of a sucker I got a degree in physics and astronomy.

How could I miss this thread! Well, yes, I actually have a fascination with Steampunk. So much so that I created my own "Steampunk City" (Well, not for real, but in my mind and jotted down some ideas).

It goes a little like this. There is this very small town in Nevada called Searchlight. It's so small and kind of pathetic in it's current state, and in my mind I have envisioned making Searchlight this new Steampunk City, in which you can only reach by train/monorail, and no cars can enter the town. It's sort of a hybrid of old technology and new. Solar powers the city, but the trains and artistic machines run on steam. I envision it as an artist city where anyone who lives there has their own shop or independent businesses, and the houses are in a Victorian and/or Georgian style.
