Does anyone know of any books/movies/shows with asexual main characters?

Isnt 'the fabulous Amelie from Montmartre' asexual? At least I recall an odd sex scene, where Amelie is starfishing and not really getting, what is going on, as her partner bones her!

I had never thought about it before but that could totally be true! And the beginning of the movie with people having sex and she looking at it from  an almost documentary perspective...

The main character in Vicious by V.E. Schwab, Victor, is a romantic assexual, the author confirmed it. I like it cause he's a complex and interesting character - he could be na anti-hero or a villain, i've seem diferente povs regarding it - and his sexuality is not something that makes him more or less weird, it's just there, i didn't have that feeling of "i'm weird/pervert/evil so i'm assexual cause not liking sex is wrong"

Though she did somehow regret not doing more with Saben... but in general I would agree that it's one of the rare books where there are very few mentions to no mentions at all of relationships whatsoever. But you have to like fast forward moving fantasy books that don't divulge much about the world they are set in :)

Wasn't that for his sake, not hers, though? Because of what happened to him, she wished she had given him what he wanted, but others reminded her that she didn't have to do things she wasn't comfortable with. At least, that's what I remember. It's been a few years since I read it.

Yes you're right, I think she felt deeply emotionnaly attached to him but didn't want to do more with him (or anyone for that matter). Perhaps the regret she felt was more due to him disappearing so suddenly than to anything she felt for him. I'm reading the series at the moment, so I stil have to go till the end to know all that will happen to her, but so far in book 1 and 2, relationships are indeed non existent. And the tempo settled into something more like story telling so that's nice as well :)

Sorry I put the quote at the wrong place ^^

I've read some people think Kara Danvers from Supergirl is asexual. I sort of agree with this in season 1 but not so much afterwords.

I've read some people think Miss Kobayashi from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is asexual. I would agree with that one.

As far as Supergirl goes, I think a case could be made for her being demisexual, gray asexual, or lithoromantic. She didn't seem into Mon-El at first at all. She thought she had a crush on James, but it was very clear after a while that there was no chemistry on her end. The whole sticky buns thing was set up very much like the cake meme. I think she's on our spectrum, but just close enough to being off it that the CW can still pander to its base. I mean, didn't they make Jughead not ace?

Honestly I think in this thread we need to do a better job of distinguishing between characters who are canonically on the ace spectrum, characters who can be read as being on the ace spectrum based on canon content easily or for whom being on the spectrum is more likely than otherwise, and characters who can easily fit an asexual spectrum "head canon" even if it's not obvious.

Like, just to give some examples from Marvel Cinematic fandom. I don't think it's ever been said that Ultron is asexual, but man, he's a robot who wants to take over the world. Reading him as ace makes more sense than reading him any other way. Has it been stated? No, it hasn't. Does it have to be? I'd argue it really doesn't, although it's not so blatant in his case that I'd fault anyone for writing romantic fanfiction with him.

But then like, take Bruce. Yeah, canonically, he was with Betty. Yeah, canonically he gets that thing going on with Natasha. But are we sure he's not demisexual? We don't know how long he knew Betty before he fell for her. We know he was downright hostile toward Natasha for several years before that mess of a movie happened. It's perfectly valid to "head canon" Bruce as demisexual or even gray ace or sex-positive heteroromantic asexual. But to say straight up "he's demi" is misleading. Of course, inappropriate statements of head canons as real canon is not unique to our community at all; that's just fandom.
