Heya! Mockingjay Part 2 is finally out! A coworker and I plan on seeing it either Wednesday or a week from this Sunday. What are your thoughts on the past 3 movies? What did you like best? What could've been better? I like how it was so epic! The fight scenes, the music. I think Katniss and Peeta make quite the cute couple. Have any of you read the books? I have not. Did you like the books or the movies better?

One more question, did any of you see the parody on Netflix called The Starving Games? Oh my gosh, it was so ridiculous

You should definitely consider reading the books because they are SO much better. Catching Fire is my favorite installment of the series, though I did like how the whole series ended (even though a lot of people didn't). I thought the movie version of Catching Fire was pretty decent as well...probably my favorite movie out of the three.

And I am not a Katniss/Peeta fan....if I had to pick I'd be a Katniss/Gale fan but honestly I am 100% behind "Katniss/no romantic relationship" because I 100% believe that Katniss Everdeen is asexual/aromantic. If you read the books she is literally just so uncomfortable all the time anytime anyone is trying to get with her.

Ugh I loathe parody movies so muchhh (with the exception of Spaceballs because Spaceballs is amazing) so I'd imagine The Starving Games is terrible. haha.

Enjoy the movie though! I definitely wanna know what you think of the ending!

I'm very thankful for this post omg! ^^ I saw P2 on Tuesday and I thought it was absolutely perfect save a few moments. I definitely did get emotional, though.

I really missed the Katniss/Johanna interaction from the book. When Katniss tries to make her feel safe since Johanna is suffering from major PTSD from being held captive in the Capitol being tortured, etc. And brings her the pine needles from her District to make her feel at home. MY HEART. </3 I missed the genuine bonding/support between two traumatized young women.

Also could've done without all the Gale scenes cause I despise the entitled douchefuck.

Like many, I've always seen Katniss as ace/aro, too! :3 It just seemed very obvious to me and I always got upset when people considered her to be devoid of any emotion. I love that the books fixated on the romance a lot less than the films. (aside from the epilogue... just no) The books are some of my favourite series so I'm very picky about the movies. For example, why didn't they include Peeta's amputated leg? That he needed a prosthetic one? Cause it'd've been such an important disability representation as he struggled with it. I also don't see JLaw as Katniss cause she was supposed to be a woman of colour. She did a brilliant job acting it out, though - I was genuinely surprised, esp with the last two films as they're my favourites. <3 The first one especially didn't really hit me, I didn't feel that terror that I felt while reading the books all those years ago. It didn't come across as well. (Except for Rue's death and the scenes in her Disctrict with her family) Cause I had tons of moments where I had to put down the books cause I literally felt sick to my stomach. So yeah, I feel like by not adding several important parts in the first movie(s), it got lost during the last ones as well. However, the two Mockingjay movies were so fucking intense and I genuinely adore them. They're so dark and fitting. Also, Josh Hutcherson's acting? HOW ON POINT WAS HE? Cause he broke my heart and made me feel more for Peeta than I initially did while reading the books.

Someone wrote an article about why Mockingjay pt. 2 was bad, but one of the reasons why they thought so was because Katniss didn't end up having sex with either Gale or Peeta. Honestly, what they said really upset me. Here's the article, I'd love to hear what you all have to say about it. https://www.yahoo.com/movies/about-that-hunger-games-ending-the-mockingjay-144926052.html?soc_src=mail&soc_trk=ma

I listened to the audio books from book one to the beginning of book 3 since that was the closest I could come to actually reading them. My favorite movie had to be either the first or second

As for Katniss disliking closeness, perhaps it was also how she was raised. Since she lost her father at a young age and she had to be the provider of her family. She saw how every villager was in poverty. It'd be understandable that she wanted nothing to do with partnering up. Maybe she really is asexual/aro. Maybe even demiromantic. Who can say for sure?

The parody is very lame. Most parts are just "whyyy?" But that's what makes it funny

And I can give you my kik too so I can find you to give my thoughts on it

I'm afraid to open up the spoilers. Lol. Must not until I see the final movie...

Hmm... I watch the movies first and had to audio the books up to the beginning of mockingjay. I don't remember too much from the books but to me, it felt like Katniss slowly grew fond of Peeta. At first I would say she at least didn't like Peeta and Gale was very brotherly and that's it. Maybe she's demiromantic in the movies?

I totally forgot about Peeta's amputated leg. Hmm... kinda sorta remember that part? It would be interesting if the movies were spot on. But that's show biz right? Although it seemed quite accurate overall

Katniss was supposed to be non White? Whaaat? I had no idea. I knew her hair was darker unlike her blonde haired family

I loved how epic it was. The music, the plot, the sad scenes, and the action. The Hanging Tree was such a cool song

"but that doesn’t mean she has to be totally asexual."

Ridiculous. Totally ridiculous. She strikes me as an asexual character now that I analyze her unease over being close to others and lack of initial interest to either men in that way. And that desire the books mentioned? Who knows? Maybe it's romantic desire, not sexual. Back when my romance was still new and amazing I felt desire with his kisses. But it wasn't desire for sex. It was desire for overall closeness, the desire to cuddle and kiss more. I felt something within as well in moments like that. Romantic type feelings. Maybe that's what Katniss in the books felt. Just cuz society likes sex doesn't mean every single human does. And no sex doesn't mean a movie is bad. As for the other elements, I actually like the overthrowing the government theme along with the whole coming of age thing the article mentions too

You should definitely read the books if you have a chance! They are so much better than the movies are. Speaking of the film series, I did enjoy the newest movie (I went Saturday night to see it). It definitely wasn't my favorite of the films--that probably would have been Catching Fire which is, additionally, my favorite of the books--but it was pretty good.

I so want to read the book series now. It'd be so cool... hmm... maybe some day...

And yush... the plot was good enough. No sex necessary to "make it better" as many would assume. We don't want it becoming too inappropriate

I loved Mockingjay Pt 2! My least favourite movie/book has always been Catching Fire, and my favourite will always be the first book/movie, but I seriously enjoyed the conclusion to the whole story. I disappointed that they cut a lot out from the end but hey, what can you do?

I was very impressed with the whole ___ shooting ___ scene at the end; it's one of my favourite scenes from the books, and I'd have been very disappointed if they didn't do it justice in the movie. They did though, and I was very happy :)

Really? What did you not like about catching fire? And what made the first the best? And the way you describe it makes me want to watch it that much more T-T

I loved the first one because everything was so new and exciting, there was no Gale romance aspect, and the filming technique used in the movie made the whole thing really up close and personal (which I thought was a great touch). Catching Fire was... important, and I enjoyed it, but it was really the actual games that were the attraction for me (and they took so long to get started :P ). Catching Fire was always the one that set up the politics and stage for the final book, while the first and third books were more focused on either the games themselves or the rebellion respectively.

Ah. Yeah the games were quite spectacular. I want to rewatch the series so much. My ex is the one who got me into the series in the first place. The beginning of this year

I liked the film, maybe the best of all the series.

I won't bother putting this in spoiler tags, because if you are stupid enough to enter a thread for a movie you haven't seen, you deserve it!

Okay, a few things:

1. The ending really, REALLY irked me. And my friends. We felt the film tried to say "now, take off your bow and put on a dress, be a housewife". Like after all this time, and her contributions to the revolution, the greatest she could be was still a mother. There were many much better endings. When Peeta planted the flower. When they were watching the rain. When she entered his room. All of those endings would be better. I hate how Hollywood really overdo these kind of endings.

2. I can't decide whether I think Snow lied about Coin, or if he told the truth. Did he order the plane? Did he not? He seemed almost shocked, yet amused when Katniss shot Coin. But there sure was something wrong about her. Just think about her suggestion for the games.

3. I liked Gale better than Peeta. Peeta has been a helpless whiner since the first movie, always in need of being saved (by Katniss or someone else). That he even made it out of the first games alive is incredibly unlikely. This was the first film when I didn't dislike him as much, probably because he had a real plot line and some actual character development. Gale was definitely too fond of war, but he was a better man than Peeta in many aspects, and he respected Katniss to the end. Finnick is probably the one of the guys I liked best (and he's the most handsome/the hottest one!).

4. It seemed like everyone knew what mutants were, but have we seen them in-universe before?

5. There is something seriously creepy about Plutarch. I have never quite been able to figure him out - or which side he's on, if he's on any.

Agreed! I was a bit worried at first, because I felt like it was one of the most iconic scenes in the entire series, but I thought that it came out wonderfully in the end.

I think that Plutarch was on his own side.

I think that he played everyone. I think that he played Katniss, Coin, Haymitch, Finnick, and literally everyone like pieces on a chess board (both in the books and the movies), to get the ending to the war that he wanted. I'm not necessarily saying that he was a bad guy--I don not think that he was--or that his actions were malicious--I do not think that they were--but simply that I think, in the end, Plutarch had his own agenda. I think his ambiguity made him a really interesting character, though. Definitely creepy, just like you said, but also interesting. I always like the characters that keep me guessing; even now I'm still unclear on him and his motivations.

Sleepy Skeleton

I'm a fan of the series, but for whatever reason I didn't really enjoy the movie. It seemed like there was too much action... and all the quiet scenes were devoted to that love-triangle mess. Personally, I always hoped she would end up with Gale because I never liked Peeta. He's just so.... basic. And his behavior in the movie (yes, I know it's not his fault) made me want to yell to Katniss "Leave him! He's only holding you back!" That being said, it's been a while since I read the book so I don't remember if Gale was as much of a jerk as he was in the movie. And it seemed to me that Katniss didn't really care when Prim died in the movie. There weren't enough scenes of her grieving... she was just back to business. Not that I cared about Prim anyway. I was more upset to see the death of Finnick.

And of course, I hated the ending to the book so I knew I wouldn't like the movie. She kills Coin, throws over the government, and what? Goes back to District 12 to live with that homicidal baby Peeta? Yikes. But I must admit, the actor for their oldest child was adorable. I had to smile when he laughed. But my mom and I both agree that the baby looked nothing like Katniss. It's a silly thing to complain about, though.

One more thing: Where is the soundtrack?! The soundtracks for Catching Fire and Mockingjay 1 were so good. I'm disappointed they didn't make one at all for this movie.

I didn't read the books, although it is probably something I would have read when I was a kid, since my favorite books were Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and Huxley's Brave New World. But when I saw the first movie, my initial thought was "I liked it better when it was in Japanese and called Battle Royal." However, the subsequent films won me over. Mocking Jay 2 was quite fun, the "muts"/mutants(?) were even more frightening than the vampire-zombies in Blade II, I Am Legend, or Daybreakers. I liked when Katniss wasn't thinking about relationships and hated every time she was. It makes sense that she would settle down at some point, though I was kinda hoping/expecting she would die, just because I thought that worked better. The multiple endings, probably there to make the producers happy, were too much, and so was having her hold an Asian(?) baby which clearly was not of her loins. The political commentary was of course quite on point, as Donald Sutherland/Snow has recently confirmed. No movie ever comes out of Hollywood that doesn't have at least a couple stories layered under the plot, and this was no exception. It's certainly comparable to the new AmazonPrime series Man In The High Castle. My favorite character was Plutarch, played by the late great Philip Seymour Hoffman. He manipulated both sides to his advantage; he was in a position of power and influence the entire time, and I think willing to sacrifice anyone to keep it that way.

I've read the books- haven't finished the last one yet, but so far I like the books best! The movies are still great though, Mockingjay Part 1 was glorious! Watched Part 2 last night, not sure how I feel about the ending.

My favorite character... probably Katniss for her ice cold exterior and scarred interior. While it was nice she eventually would settle down, it would be nice to have a main character in some action plot not need a man or woman, but be strong alone. You wanted Katniss to die?
