TheDarkMuse
Edit: Interviews for the blog will now be closed. Let me just say...THANK YOU SO MUCH. Your contribution is so much more valid than any scholarly article I found. The blog post itself will consist of, essentially, a synthesis of your responses, HOWEVER, there's so much that I want to include that I will be creating separate posts to show what you all said. I'm so excited that you all said something. I am so so grateful. Thank you!] Hello! [: I'm TheDarkMuse. I am new to this community and I was hoping to reach out to some fellow folks in Europe or basically anywhere outside of the United States. I currently reside in the United States, but I was hoping to get in touch with someone who could share their experience being Ace in a country with a different culture. I am currently a Senior at UIC in the US and I'm working on a research project for my Gender and Women's Studies class. I've struggled with finding a word that I could attach to how I've always felt and I'm trying to use this project to help spread awareness and create positive visibility for Asexuals. A more concrete title for my project is "How is asexuality marginalized outside of the United States?" Being that this term is still so new, I was wondering how it is being perceived outside of the United States. How do your families react if you end up talking about it? How do your peers? What does society think of us? I grew up in Poland and as far as I remember, culturally, if I were to be there now, my family name wouldn't exactly be smiled upon. No significant other, no plans on getting married, no interest in either... Here I've been told that something was wrong with me and that what I identify as has no validity, that it's some scientific term that has nothing to do with sexuality at all. So, if there is anyone who would be interested in a interview consisting of approximately 15 questions, please post below :) ****This will be visible on a Tumblr blog [that is how our professor wants us posting our research data]. If you would like to remain anonymous, I will do that for you. If you want your own link published on my Tumblr, I will gladly do that as well.**** Thank you  -The Dark Muse EDIT 11/8/15 2:10 PM: Questions have been sent to participants. THANK YOU! <

Scottthespy
Well, I'm Canadian, and a lot of people think Canada and the U.S. are basically the same culturally but... There are enough differences that I think you might be interested in them. I'm up for it, if you want a charmed Canadian's experience.

m02a16ds
Awwww... :( How could I have missed it? Anyway, thanks for bringing to public attention the fact that life outside of the U.S. can be different. As a non-American, I have to constantly struggle with common disbelief that certain issues can and do present a problem.

TheDarkMuse
Hey all! The blog has been live now since about November, however that does not put an end to our personal narratives! My assignment is complete and graded, but I am keeping my blog going. I have left the inbox and submissions open if any of you would still like to participate in the interviews, or merely if you want to submit anything relating to the topic of well....your experience. I want this blog to be a celebration of our narratives and announcements of any news regarding asexuality in the media. http://aceisreal.tumblr.com/ If you're interested in receiving interview questions, feel free to respond or PM me. Thanks [:
