Spreading the Awareness

Hello, hello!

I'm looking to do my part to spread asexual awareness. I'm planning on putting up little fliers and spreading leaflets everywhere. but I'm finding it difficult to start... I'm also not sure what to do or how to approach it.

I first tried to make the flier, using the five w's and one h... but then I wasn't sure what to do with the "why" and "how". I was also mulling over the idea of making them full out posters, but that might limit the amount I can make... I decided I'd play around with a few designs and layouts and figure out the details and what not along the way.

I moved on to making brochures... but then I realized I was starting to advertise AVEN as well. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem, but I thought I should make sure and double check. I also want to see if it's okay if I take information directly from the front page (word-for-word/copy-and-paste). I'll also play around with ideas and see where I go from there.

now, I'm stuck. Any ideas or suggestions anyone?

and do I need approval?

Dunno about AVEN's official stance, but at least at the uni when we're quoting someone, as long as we cite the source it's fine. Probably works the same way here.

Thank you Morning Glory for spreading the word! Yes you are definitely welcome to print off fliers, and use AVEN's name. :)

Thank you Vega91 and michaeld! And it's no problem! I want to spread the word! If I had known about this orientation and community earlier then I could've been spared a lot of... Bothersome situations. I want to do my part to support the community that has offered to support me. :3 I'll continue to work on my little awareness projects. I'll be sure to mention that the information is from "the members of AVEN" just to be sure. I've already talked to the library and the city hall about spreading the awareness and they seem willing to help when I have the finished product. and I'm thinking about contacting a few radio stations, too!

For the love of cake... I just called one of my favourite radio stations to ask them if they knew about asexual awareness week and they were like: "... No?" And I had no idea what to say! I was like: "... Oh.." ^^; ack! I decided to wing it! We talked about it for a little bit and I felt SO awkward! To make things worse, he asked the question I dreaded to hear: "are you going to call other radio stations about this?" I felt so guilty when I told him that I was thinking about it! >_< "aww! I thought we were special!" AH! Why did he have to say that?!?! T^T how can I possibly call the other radio stations now?! I want to spread awareness but now I'll always be hearing that! *hits head repeatedly with a pillow*

Oh. As for my main reason in posting this... If I do decide to call the other stations... What should I say? I wrote down a few things but thought I'd continue to wing it and learn from each time. What do you guys think? Is there something I should mention?

Update on my leaflet and poster situation: I'm half-way through the leaflet. I figured I'd just modify it when it's done and use that for a poster as well. I think I found a good place to print them. And I'm already charting out my targets. I think for my grand finale I'll make a few big posters by the end of the week, depending on how well this goes.

(Pondering over the idea of getting more public and maybe even starting a group in my local area... I dunno... I think I'll have to see how this week goes. And hopefully I'll have enough courage to follow through.)

... I've failed... I don't know what happened by my plans for the Asexual Awareness Week fell flat. I still have all those leaflets though I haven't finished folding them all... I planned to leave most of them at the library but they didn't contact me back. I don't want to give up on spreading the awareness, but... I feel a little awkward about doing so now that it's not awareness week... *ponders*... but that doesn't matter, right?? Awareness week or not I can still spread awareness, right? :3 I shall return to my projects very soon with renewed determination!

*bows* mostly I wanted to post this as an apology.

P.S. My leaflets turned out to be a little on the rough side. They could've been put together better. Rather I could have made it more simple and easier to follow... But I shall learn from this mistake and make better ones next time.

Omg. Quadrupole post. So sorry everyone. :T I'm sure you're all done hearing about this, but I thought I should make another update.

I finally got time to work more on my awareness projects. I went to a local coffee store and they said they'd ask their manager if I can leave the leaflets behind (as they don't usually; they are willing to ask because I'm not promoting something but instead just raising awareness). I also showed my leaflets to my friend and her mom, hoping for opinions and/or criticism. I didn't really get much, but what did end up happening, was that her mother declared she'd take one and read it to her class. She teaches gifted junior high students. I was thrilled to hear that. I asked if there was anything she'd like to know; she said she'd come to me with her students questions. :3
