divided_sky
I don't often use it at all, to be honest, but I'd rather use whatever most people find the most inclusive, so I think I would usually go for LGBTQIA+. I've learnt a few new ones in this thread, though! Also not sure if this is the right place, but I've seen some people write them in different orders, e.g. GLBT - is there a reason for that? Personal preference? Or they just want their own identity first in the line of letters? It's because as soon as the general public gets used to it, they want to start changing it so it seems new and everyone has to ask about it. Most of us know what LGBT is, so yeah, let's just start changing the order for the hell of it. That won't cause any confusion. It's like how Carnegie gets changed every so often. Sometimes it's like - Car-neh-gee, then they change it to Car-ney-gee. I hear people who study philosophy change the pronunciation of philosopher's names occasionally. Drives me nuts. Is it NietzschEE, or NietzschA? I think people simply like to change things so that the public is thrown off and has to ask about it, or make it seem like something different and special that the average idiot isn't clued into it. noparlpf
I either use "LGBTA+" for recognisability, or "GSRM" because it's more inclusive.
RK800
Usually LGBTQ+ or MOGAI.
Kolendo
Usually I use LGBTQA2SI, I grew up around native/indigenous people and culture though, the "2S" part (two spirited) definitely isn't common or well-known.
Maiflower
LGBTQIAAPTsCB (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, agender, pansexual, two spirit, crossdresser, bigender). I usually said LGBTQIA, but I just added those because because I also classify them to be in it, but I just forget and it takes too long to type all of it. I also saw this thing on Tumblr that said it should be shortened to ABS (Anything But Straight), but I just realized it didn't include TIATsCB, so it should technically be ABSAC (Anything But Straight And Cisgender). And actually, sexuality and gender are two different things, so then it should become ABS and ABC. Answering this just changed what I call what is usually LGBT.
JaySexual
Usually I go with GLBT .. thats the way I've always seen it too (up until a couple years ago.)
Darling Owl
I normally use LGBTQIA, unless I'm feeling lazy or talking to intolerant people, then I say LGBT. I dont use MOGAI because it sounds like a little gremlin to me....
gaidheal
I would probably use GSD - Gender and Sexual Diversity (similar to GSRM).
heartfulReverie
I find the whole, long alphabet soup acronym that is "LGBT+" and its many variants to be quite the mouthful, so I usually say "queer" or "MOGAI" instead.
yonah
I typically use LGBTQ+ with Q as queer.
Cadet Taylor
I usually refer to it as LGBTQIA+ but I recognize that there is more, haha, i just can't remember them all into one big abbreviation. LGBT (most people know what that stands for), Q is for queer, I is for intersex and A is for Asexual
Ioras
I'm selfish and want that A in there somewhere. :)
Rising Sun
GSRM sounds the best. LGBT+ with all the added letters, too long. MOGAI, cute but don't ever, ever feed them after midnight...
DannyFenton123
LGBT+. It's what I've always said, I guess :P
Atmetller
There are some questions that I have: Would it be reasonable to put asexuality under the same umbrella as LGBTQ+? Wouldn't it be confusing? There are some people that identify with both and it's perfectly understandable (because there are people that have intersections in both). Is there another way to support both communities without using an acronym or being under the same spectrum? For instance if we looked at asexuality and LGBTQ+ as sets with different shades, some people would have intersections, others would be independent and would be only from one of the groups. Could we say that asexuality as a set can have some independent people that want to identify only with asexuality and not under LGBTQ+? Would it be possible just to have asexuality as a separate thing and allow those who want to identify either with one of the sets or both go under the labels that they prefer? Tos
LGBTQ+ or MOGAI
GiraffeSpots
LGBTQIA+ Withe the speed I talk at, it hardly takes any extra time to say and it gives me a little buzz when I include the A. I sort of want to fit a P in there, but I can't decide where, and I guess it fits under the plus.
KaitlynS
I use several different acronyms based on what i feel like saying at the time. For people who don't know what those letters mean or i don't think they will i usually just stick with LGBT unless i want to talk about the meaning of the other letters. If they do know i will often say LGBTQIA.
Nea Rose Symphony
LGBTQIA+
enjolras
LGBTQ, occasionally LGBTQ+ or LGBTQIA, depending on the situation
Raina.
I personally use LGBTQA+.
binary suns
I have never had to spell it out or say it to anyone ever but if I imagine it in my head it's I guess lgbtqa+ but to be honest I actually say lgbq and sometimes lbgqt... xD can I just say QT-blag :
A Different Mononoke
I'd always gone for LGBTQA because that's a slightly more inclusive varient of an acronym I know and most other people know. However - I do like GSRM. Think I'll need to introduce it in my conversations from now on. It is very inclusive and non-specific. I think because LGBT is the most commonly used by people who don't look much into the subject and is most in the public conciousness. It is partially why - for example, in almost all the diversity paperwork in job applications I've done just include the LGBT options without even an "other" option.
Robin L
LGBTQIA+, or I just say Queer. Has GS®M/D ever been used in mainstream discussions? EDIT: wow, that is really unreadable. I mean GSM, GSRM, GSD, GSRD
Guest
This poll is being locked and moved to the read-only Census Archive for 2015. As part of ongoing Census Forum organization, and in an attempt to keep the demographics of the polls current with the active user base at the time, each poll will last for one year. However, members are allowed and even encouraged to restart new polls similar to the archived ones if they like them.
