There are ways though! :D

Green tea (and actually coffee to a tiny extent) as you mentioned is a great example. There's also what I am doing when I work out: build muscle. Your body spends a lot of energy (calories) by maintaining muscles which means that your "BMR" (Basal metabolic rate) increases. By building some muscle your metabolism will increase by a bit. Lifting weighs can thus be quite productive in the long rung :)

Honestly I do not know because I never have to loose weight, I actually had to gain weight because my BMI was on the limit low. Ahahaha…

But you should definitely check out Natural News web site there are a lot of very useful information there. A friend of mine who is very “paranoid” about food recommended it to me.

@Distant Admiration Yes, I've heard that before.

However, I'm really scared of training with weights, I mostly do aerobic excersises like dancing and walking. Mainly because I muscle up really, really easily. In just a couple of weeks lifting weights I will bulk up quite a bit, it's both a genetic gift and a curse haha, and what scares me is that muscles weigh more than fatty tissue so that will keep my BMI up in numbers.

That's very understandable. If your goal is to reach a certain number then it wouldn't be as wise. Some aim for a lower % of body fat and some aim to simply lower their weight. Both are equally legitimate :)

BMI is a pretty arbitrary system though, and a pinpoint at best, but if you just don't want to gain muscles then run to your heart's content! :D

Yes, I agree that the BMI is not very accurate. And I do want to slim down some before starting to train with weights.

Thanks for all the advice!

For you gurus of the kitchen, and for us lesser mortals of, like, burnt offerings. I love this tumblr blog in general, but specifically I love this post about how to dominate soups. CreativeUsername, I now think of you like this when you cook, fyi. :D

Uh...warning for language on that blog, but it's such an awesome place. Does anyone have any favorite recipe websites?

Hahhaa. Yes! That's pretty much exactly how I cook. It's all "hmm, this herb smells good, I'll just toss it in. Hmm this veggie stir fry isn't colorful enough, let me find something red to add." I just toss in whatever and wing it most of the time. Following recipes is so hard for me.

On the weight loss note, just barely more than a week in and I'm feeling the sense of discouragement. I know it's unlikely I'll lose weight but it still sucks to see no movement on the scale.

Ok.. I had an idea, for all of us who are interested in becoming more fit. :)

I 'like' to do fitness videos on Youtube, but.. I guess I really don't like it enough because I only manage to do about 10 minutes maximum. ;) There's a great channel called fitness blender, and if the people who make the videos are any indication, their routines really work! I know I'd be more motivated to do the exercises if I was doing them with another person, but most of them time I don't have anyone to do them with.. And, since I really doubt I'm the only one with this issue.. what do you all think about doing group workout sessions through video chat? We can follow along with one of the fitness blender videos (or any other fitness video) together, or one of us could come up with workout sessions for everyone else to follow. The times could be set in this thread, and then organized through PM.

Thoughts?

This probably needs it's own thread, but first I'd like to see if anyone would be actually interested in doing this.

The most annoying thing about living on a second floor apartment is that I can no longer workout at home. I have some workout videos that I really like and you point out good videos on youtube, but my downstairs neighbors seem to hear every single movement and sometimes rudely let me know. Though I guess I could rudely jump around in retaliation but I hate disrupting people that way.

^ Second floor apartment habiter (is this a word?) here too haha. xD I perfected the art of movement without making much noise years ago.. comes from living in a house with squeaky floor, I suppose. ;) Even if I wasn't good at it though, the neighbors below me aren't the easily perturbed sort.

Don't be discouraged CU! I'm sure the scale just isn't catching on quick enough to how awesome you are but in a few weeks time it's tiny scale brain will have caught up with you :p I'm still a bit sick but I'll text you soon to give you life updates and I'll for sure be at the meet this Thursday.

I also live in a second floor apartment! I wanted to try Insanity, and I even got a few days into it, but it involves so much moving around that I was making way too much noise. :-/ My landlady (who lives below me) is often gone, so it isn't a problem when she is away for a week or two. But when she comes back, I can't do it. I usually stick to yoga when she's here, and then I go running.

I've been debating buying an exercise bike or something similar to use indoors once the winter gets really bad down here. But, money. :( Maybe I'll consider it after the holiday season.

My brother and I recently joined a gym together. Been working out as often as we can. Right now that's about 2 or 3 times a week, but we are hoping to soon get into a rhythm of 4 or 5 times a week. I am now at the lowest weight I've been in my adult life :) Still have a long way to go, though!

Howdy. Mostly posting for the eating better part side. I have been on a medically supervised diet for a few months. It's working. But I never realized how much I used food as a copping mechanism or as an emotional crutch.

Hopefully though a few more months and I can be back on a diet that allows more comfort food. Like dairy and carbs.

How's everybody doing with the new healthy lifestyle??

I'm pleased to report I've been losing weight, slowly but surely, and I have something to share with you all that may be of help to some...

In the last few months my relationship with food has changed dramatically, it's no longer something I use as an emotional crutch but something to fuel my body and to take joy in.

I started to look into why I was often overeating and how to change my ways. What I found has more to do with psychology than I would've thought possible. My personal issue was with self confidence and self esteem. Once I learned to love myself for who I am (extra pounds and all) the weight just started falling off.

I'm not saying that this is applicable to everyone, but for those of you who like me have trouble losing weight even though you're eating right and excersising, maybe you can look into this stuff.

Good luck!
