Hey AVENites, my name's Eryn!

I'm a second year Materials Engineering student from Manchester, England, studying at Sheffield Hallam University, which - as you can probably imagine - entails 5:30am starts to travel to 9am lectures, and it's simultaneously a pain and a joy to do. I was originally studying Mechanical Engineering, but found that the course content was not the kind of thing I wanted to be studying, and so I transferred after my first year at the beginning of the 2014/15 academic year (the year in between was spent part time, catching up with the modules I'd missed.) I want to go and work in aviation materials.

I'm also transgender, genderfluid neutral-masculine, a fact that seems to have been lost on some of my coursemates, but they never speak about me in when I'm around, so the pronouns thing isn't that much of an issue - when it is, I'll pull them up on it. So, I use the term "grey ace" to describe my sexuality, because it's the term I feel fits me the best - I feel physical and aesthetic attraction, and can become really attracted to people based on looks and certain personality traits (intelligence being one of those traits, and humour), but I definitely don't think I want relationships or sex. That kinda leads me onto another thing; I'm aro. Or at least aro spectrum. I'm still figuring that out, but the idea of a romantic, sexual relationship literally scares the hell out of me because I don't understand what to do about it.

Anyway, sexuality/romanticism and career goals aside, I'm a twenty one year old English person who absolutely adores food, cooking and baking. I also love travelling, and I can speak French to CEFR A2 level, which basically means I'm a beginner/intermediate French speaker. I love music too, especially Kill Hannah, who's final ever show I'm going to see in Chicago in December. Their music means so much to me. Definitely a technophile, I can be found in very close proximity to a computer, tablet or phone, and anything with apps on it. I also run a blog called Genderqueer Engineer - which you can find linked in my profile if you want to read it - it's about my experiences with gender non-conformity and disability at university and whilst working in STEM!

Thanks for having me folks!

IS THAT A RASPBERRY SWISS ROLL?!

Yeah, at any rate, I get up at 5:30 to get the 6:20 tram, and that gets me in to the station with enough time to not panic about missing my 7:20 train

I mean honestly, it's like... some days I do more travelling than actual work, but I get to look at lots of beautiful hills and mountains to/from university so it's not too bad.

Gender discussions are one of my favourite topics, particularly as a feminist, and sometimes I just want to help other people figure out their own identity because the relief of finally figuring out who you are is indescribable, and I want everyone who's questioning themselves to feel that happiness and hope.
