I'm definitely comfortable w/ calling myself queer or have others call me that; but ONLY by people who identify as such as well. It's def a reclaimed word in my eyes, but I also respect it when people don't want to associate themselves with that word 'cause for some it's triggering and an insult so I try to be careful using it.

I've been thinking of identify myself as Queer because it is an umbrella term for the LGBT+ community. I honestly am a bit confused of my own orientations, and it's much more simpler calling myself Queer then having a long intimate confusing conversation with every person who asks

I don't mind being called queer, and in a situation where I really didn't want to "come out" as specifically asexual, I might use it as sort of an umbrella term to tell others I'm LGBTQ+. I honestly can never think of it as an insult or associate it with anything negative, even though I know that, historically, it has been used that way. I've just never really heard it used as an insult by the people around me (don't know why, I guess it's just fallen out of fashion here?), and my only experience with the word is either in LGBTQ+ circles or in its original sense. I understand why people may not like it being applied to them, but personally, I just don't have that negative association.

I'm still not really sure how I feel about self-identifying as "queer." On the one hand I totally consider asexuality to be part of "LGBT+" and when I'm not using "GSRM" I use "LGBTA+." I think asexual people can identify as queer if they want to. I'm just still not sure whether I'm comfortable applying that label to myself.

I'm comfortable with it and it doesn't really affect me even if someone intended it to be an insult.

Then again I'm not easily insulted.

This poll is being locked and moved to the read-only Census Archive for 2015. As part of ongoing Census Forum organization, and in an attempt to keep the demographics of the polls current with the active user base at the time, each poll will last for one year. However, members are allowed and even encouraged to restart new polls similar to the archived ones if they like them.
