Am I asexual?

Recommended Posts

I have always kind of figured that I am asexual, but never completely accepted it because people would always say that I was doing something wrong/wasn't with the right person/would grow into feeling more "sexual." But I'm pretty sure that those things aren't going to happen, and for the most part I'm pretty fine with it. I'm only bummed because sex/orgasims are really fun for people, and I guess I'm curious about how those things feel?

So, the purpose of this post, I guess, is to determine if I'm actually asexual, and to reach out to people with the same characteristics.

These are the facts:

1. The first time I had sex I was way too young, I was not into it at all, and when I look back on it it makes me shudder. I feel that I've gotten over it, though, so I don't know if it was a traumatic event?

2. I've had sex with boyfriends and I've also had random hookups, and those experiences have often been really pleasant, but for all of the other reasons that people have sex besides the actual sexual pleasure aspect. The random hookups were fun just because of the thrill/adventure, and having sex with an intimate person is nice if you love them/they're enjoying it/it's a bonding experience.

3. I think I've felt slightly aroused a few times in my life, but that's it.

4. I enjoy cuddling and being physically affectionate with someone that I care about, but for the most part really dislike physical contact or even standing really close to other people or prolonged eye contact.

5. I find men attractive, but not in a sexual way, more in an appreciative way.

6. I like doing romantic/affectionate things with my boyfriend, and can enjoy sexual things if the circumstances are right, just not because of any sort of sexual pleasure.

Thanks for reading this long post!

Asexual means that you don't find people sexually attractive. Unless there's someone of another gender who you've found sexually attractive, this point right here is probably enough for you to fit the definition of "asexual". The definition generally used around here is "someone who doesn't experience sexual attraction", with sexual attraction being separate from romantic attraction, aesthetic/sensual attraction or enjoyment of sexual activities. :) If you're still confused about the terms I'm using, browsing the forums here should help clear things up a bit.

Should i list the different types of attraction? I think you got your initial question answered though.
