Amadeo
Hello everyone, I just wanted to share that I decided today to call myself platonic rather than asexual simply because we are allowed labeling ourselves the way we want (labels are subjective, not objective). Asexual makes me feel sad because it feels like it means I don't have the ability to love. But platonic is a beautiful word that implies love. I just wanted to share in case someone else would feel more comfortable calling themselves platonic. Being asexual is also beautiful, it's just that personally, it makes me feel better to be platonic. :)
Skittles87
I understand where you're coming from - I'm still getting over the fact that I think of "asexual" as pertaining to bacteria/yeast/algae (I work in science). I've seen some asexual people use "ace", which is kinda cool. It just seems a nicer, less clinical word - like gay compared to homosexual, or straight compared to heterosexual. oskietje
Well being asexual doesn't really have anything to do with ability to love or have emotions, but you're entitled to call yourself whatever you want. ;) I like to call myself something frosty, icy, or prickly! ^_^
Vala
You know, I actually quite like this. 'Platonic' is something that people might understand better than 'asexual' - at least it wouldn't get aces confused with amoebas. And I like the connotation it has that aces are still capable of loving.
Róisín
Well you're entitled to call yourself what you like, but sexual orientations are completely different from romantic orientations - so you can be asexual and still have romantic feelings, or be sexual and only have platonic feelings and not romantic ones :)
