Very nice article, thanks for sharing.

This episode of House about asexuality is so frustrating, House is one of my fav shows and when this ep aired I wasn't sure yet that I was ace but even then I get pretty sad that they portrayed it so poorly, showing to an audience with the size of theirs that asexuality dont exist. I hope they have never said anything at all about it.

So much love for this article. Wish they would include the socially awkward Sheldon trope, but as a Feminist website I understand.

Loves it.

It didn't mention Glee, though. Although Glee doesn't explicitly state asexuality, it send a very clear, "Not wanting sex is wrong" message in the first season. I don't remember the episode, but I know a few other AVENites do.

I am also kinda POed at Big Bang Theory.

The director makes specific hints to asexuality, but all of the sudden we ask and he's all, "Nope!" Then goes out of his way to make Sheldon sexual. Now the actors are all, "Sheldon and Amy are workign on their relationship." Like, no, that's not how this works. He's still demi if he needs to form a bond before getting sexual attraction. Which is still on the ace spectrum.

Thanks for finding that article, that was a well written piece. It saddens me how little Allosexuals know about aces though, especially the corrective rape attempts.

Normally I see people putting Sheldon in the autistic spectrum (which the creators of the show also deny), not that the autism and asexuality are mutually exclusive, but I have never thought of him as asexual because I always saw him as having aspergers.... now I am genuinely confused

From the episodes I've seen, Sheldon seems to show a complete disinterest in sex. I know people with Asperger's who are *very* interested in sex and sexy things. I don't know a ton about the autistic spectrum, but my personal experiences leads me to think that Asperger's can't be used as a complete explanation for Sheldon's preferences.

I could be wrong, though.

Sheldon have some "classic" asperger traits like difficulty in understand sarcasm, emotions and social interactions, he is extremely methodic (he has a strict schedule for dinner, work, sleep, go out, etc) and can't stand changes in his routine (even if the change is someone sitting in his spot), he is also very concerned with hygiene, he has trouble expressing his emotions. Sheldon speaks in a very monotone voice and his facial expressions appear very neutral.
Sexuality never appears between the range of characteristics of autism and it is possible that he is ace and aspie, although his uninterest in sex can be caused by his aversion to touching, so he can be sex averse but not asexual, but now that I stopped to think about it, if I have to guess, I would say he is ace...

I've only watched the first season of Sirens, but I thought it did a good job with the asexual character. She was very clear about her feelings toward the "love interest" and he appeared to accept that after some initial confusion. I guess things went downhill in season 2. That's disappointing.
