Speciesism

I got into a convo about this Cecil the lion. One said no one cared if he was killed. I responded to him by saying that I find a reason behind the speciesism. He claimed it was because he may get killed for being of color. Yet I explained that at least he is not jailed in a farm to be slaughtered and eaten. People treat other animals like crap. Then, another basically told me to 'get a dog and sit down'. She apparently thought that we should care more about animals more than we do to ourselves. I then explained to her that was not what I meant. I also explained that I wasn't trying to offend her, but then went on to call me a 'joke.' If that's the case, then she is less than the 'joke' (me). She was not the only one to pop on me after I expressed my opinions on speciesism. Btw, the convo was online so the it lacked a number of social cues.

He needs to face justice, and Obama needs to stop silently blocking extradition. He should have been extradited immediately as his crimes are recognized in both countries and carry a punishment of up to 15 years in Zimbabwe. And he fled Zimbabwe to avoid apprehension. The people blaming the locals, who are basically treated as slaves by these people, are pretty awful.

Here is a photo of almost the exact close range view the poacher would have had when he fired the arrow into Cecil's neck at close range. Notice the large collar

Some people feel tough killing defenseless animals. Most feel powerful.

Most money ends up back in the hands of white foreigners who own these disgusting enterprises. These people are despicable.

I am too nervous to look at the pic. Seeing the torture of such animals trigger me the most.

I spent much of my working life as a 'legitimate target' of the IRA for being a Civil Servant but I had the choice of changing my occupation (and the US refused to extradite bombers and murderers because the IRA was a 'political' organisation) . Animals don't, they are what they are, live where they do. Cecil should have lived to a ripe old age (for a lion); he was in a protected area, had the collar (which they tried to destroy and hide) indicating he was part of research.

Spoilered as it may be triggering for An1

He was lured from a secure area, shot with an arrow and allowed to bleed out for 40 hours!

Seems like the women that I debated with about this were manipulative. They tried to make it seem as if I told them that other animals are more important than 'black lives.' Then went on to call me names like 'dumbass'. As an individual of color, I found this rediculous. There is a saying, when you assume, you make an ass out of me. If someone tells me that I am being irrational, I would ask the person how and why. Find the root to the ways of thinking. But these girls instantly 'snapped'. One of them had passive-agressive tendencies. All because of an unbiased view. They were like, 'Bitch, that is my opinion.' Really? So was mine. Your point?

It's why I steer clear of online chat. Being a bit slow absorbing written information I find conversation moves on faster than I can track, a situation others will use to push the conversation their way.

So far as this lion goes, a crime has been committed, the perpetrator identified, so justice should prevail.

With regards to animals in general. I eat meat so I regard farming as necessary. But the gratuitous hunting of a protected species just for sport, no.

I find all sport hunting to be reprehensible. If you aren't going to eat it don't kill it. Poaching is especially bad because it removes animals without concern for the ecology or wildlife management, all for profit.

It was actually a Youtube comment. First I reported her then I eventually called one of them out for her manipulation, then claimed that my comment was too irrelevent to offend. I respond that mine was relevant enough for her to respond. Yet she goes further to call me a nobody. I recieved this comment from an email by YouTube after I blocked her. Maybe I should just let her have the last word or 'win' or whatever. Maybe my PDNOS was getting to me, but she seriously made the wrong assumption about everything. What do you guys think?

You know, I was acting irrationally by this being. I should have asked why and what this fool's intentions but instead I fell into her trap. She's not worth a continuous beef.

Oscar Wilde described fox hunting as 'The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable' - same can be applied to big game hunting.

Just because you stand up for animals doesn't mean that you think less of human beings.

I'm vegan. I don't think I'm special or anything, and I didn't get mad or sad when I read about this lion being killed because, even though I find it wrong and I am aware of these things, it's still a thing that happens literally every day, and I'm not only talking about the animals being killed for food (unnecessarily from my point of view) but also hunters murdering wild animals... It really happens all the time.

Yet we hear people that support killing of billions of animals per year for a bad habit that can be easily replaced and solved complain about a lion being killed in Africa.

Honestly, I can't really say I'm concerned about it. The mass never really think about these things and the media has more priority and influence on people than their own acts.

You know, lion hunting makes no sense. Lions could not care less about humans in their space so to me it's one of the more cowardly forms of hunting. You might as well hunt rocks.
