New Hierarchy of needs dismisses certain people!

I never learned about the placement of sex in the old pyramid. We were taught that the basic needs included shelter, food, some sort of proper clothing/protection from the elements, water, etc. Sex was never mentioned.

Same here. I apologize I cannot site this textbook for I have turned it in at the end of the year, but I have taken a picture of their chart and I think it's perfectly fine as such.

^^ this all of it. That's what we learned and that's the pyramid I've always "followed" and felt was the most solid in my understanding of human psychology and how we develop.

Same here and it applies to everyone. Such as an aromantic who happens to have no desire for a romantic relationship (I am aware of cupioromantic, I don't mean to exclude anyone, just an example), it doesn't mean that they don't want to be loved in some (other) way, such as friends and family. I also like how self-actualization is defined as "need to live up to our fullest and unique potential.".

The researchers state in the article that while self-actualization is interesting and important, it isn’t an evolutionarily fundamental need.

Apparently they're evolutionary fundamentalists.

I'm so confused as to why such a project was authorized, the hierarchy of needs was fine as it is, there were some points that were a little terse in the way they were set up and a lot of advancements that have come throughout the years to disprove that some of needs aren't exactly needs, but the new chart makes it seem like everyone is biologically driven to find a mate and procreate with them. Which just isn't true.
