My pic of a common lizard today.  There was another smaller one scurrying across a path further on.

Really jealous, I've never seen anything like this IRL in the UK :(

@Ortac, the picture is blocked. Did you use photobucket? If so they now charge you to display pictures, as do some other hosting sites

I just see a small gray circle with a white horizontal line in the middle in both cases.

Sounds cool, though. :)

I saw four deer and a rather large bird of prey on the way home :)

I am having a bit of trouble with photo hosting sites and getting images to appear directly here, so the best I can do for now is to offer another link. Hopefully this one will work:

Pileated Woodpeckers

That worked!

Gorgeous photo. Well worth the trouble to post, :)

Has anyone seen any Kingfishers this September? I'm in Oxfordshire and I've been walking by the Thames  looking for them, but no joy so far.

No, not seen any this year (except on Springwatch!).  I have seen some in the past on the Calder near Mirfield (West Yorkshire).

This is a scene from last month's backpacking trip to Naturalist Basin.  The yellow leaves at the fall foliage of Skunk Cabbage (American skunk cabbage), growing at almost 11,000 feet elevation.  No wonder it is invasive!

Ooh, lucky you. Kingfishers are on my birdie bucket list.

Here's a red-tailed hawk that was at the Renaissance Festival. He was rescued by a wildlife rehabilitater.

The grey heron is sitting on the tall fir tree in the next garden surveying my pond every morning.  The pond is netted, but he lives in hope.

  • 2 weeks later...

There are a dozen, or so, dragonflies, flitting about outside my truck. When the sun hits them, they look like they are made of copper metal.

They resemble little steampunk constructs. Very cool!

I have never seen a jay like that! We have blue jays here, but they look much different. Whereabouts do you live?

The jays I'm most familiar with are the California Scrub Jay

And the Stellar Jay

Steller's Jays are gorgeous! We obviously don't have them here on East Coast. Lots and lots of blue jays. I like to watch them steal acorns from squirrels. They also bury acorns themselves.

Then there's the black-throated magpie-jay from Mexico. That's the bird that got into Sheldon and Leonard's apartment in The Big Bang Theory. Very striking birds, with the color patterns and long "swallow-tail" tailfeathers and cool crest.
