How to tell a dog person from a cat fan by appearance?

Internet search hasn't revealed anything particularly decisive on the subject, so I've decided to ask you.

I have a feeling that not only there are personality traits that are specific to dog people (it's known quite well), but also they gain some typical appearance features that allow to distinguish them at first sight, even if they're walking alone.

A cat person have more scratches. A dog person stinks dog saliva and wet dog. Both is full of fur.

But in all seriousness, I don't think what we like and dislike have any effect on our natural appereance. It's imo saying that people who preffer how I met your mother looks differnt than persons liking scrubs.

Haha, kinda funny thread :P

I don't know if you can tell a dog person from a cat person just by looking at them (that seems a bit weird to me), but for fun: if I look at how people are around me it is like this:

Cat people seems to be more calm and quiet, dog people more chatty and loud. The people with dogs I know usually have either really fancy clothes or "clothes made for walking in the woods" while cat people seems to stay more in the middle.

Of the people I know: cat people are thinner than the dog people, both "in the bones" and when it comes to amount of fat.

Uhh... I don't think I've ever thought about this before :D

I would probably say I don't go by actual traits (be they appearance or personality wise) because I think it's something that's impossible to generalise. I'd probably see if I could smell them to see if I could tell which they had, but that's not particularly socially acceptable, so.

I have both cats and dogs. I don't think I have a preference, but I know which animal I'd save first if, for example, my house caught fire, but that's nothing to do with with their species...

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to mention that, thanks. A scratch is sometimes hidden under a band-aid, but anyway, someone who has one on a limb can be provisionally assumed to be a cat person until proved otherwise.

But in all seriousness, I don't think what we like and dislike have any effect on our natural appereance.

Facial expressions of spouses do change over time to resemble each other more, as per this study (that's older than myself, holy cow ). So even the core facial features can be changed by external psychological circumstances. My conjecture is that ownership of a cat or a dog can have longterm effects on the facial expression similar to what marriage does.

Besides, I was talking not only about natural appearance, but also about dressing and style in general (maybe makeup too, which can totally alter the natural face expression, lol).

as a cat person I have no fashion sense and I am quite introverted and sensitive to noise
I know another person in my family who is into cats more than dogs, she is also sensitive to noise and nuance but has a better taste in clothes.

the dog people in my family are defenitely more extroverted.

the linked article makes plenty of sense to me.

I wouldn't recognize a cat or dog person from a far, only through conversation.

Pretty interesting topic

I do believe I look a bit like my dog - we have the same thick mane of hair and dark eyes. I certainly have scratches on my hands occasionally when I have attempted to groom my cat. Both my dog and cat have thick coats, so my clothing is chosen to avoid showing too many dog and cat hairs.

I don't know how you tell dog people from cat people generally; I take my dog and cat for a joint appointment once a year at the vets for vaccine boosters and never know whether to sit in the cat or dog seating area. The cat owners do maybe seem more self-contained than the dog owners.

What if I'm not a dog or cat person?

This is something I haven't thought before, but it's interesting :). Let me see, from the people I observed the ones that have cats are more quiet and calm, but I did see that they are fashionable, also the girls like to make their eyes with eyeliner in a catlike manner, dog persons are louder and like adventures, the unpredictable.

I have both, but I do tend to love dogs more :D , cats seem like they love you only when is convenient for them, though not all of them.

What if I'm not a dog or cat person?

Then you're in the 'safe zone'. I'm just looking for ways to persuade myself not to crush on girls who appear to like dogs. (Ideally on no one irl, but especially not on dog fans.) It's hard for me to ask directly - I'd like not to start any informal talk at all.

also the girls like to make their eyes with eyeliner in a catlike manner

That's a good tip, I forgot about it! :cake:

A dog person might look like someone who hasn't slept in ages, works maybe with the FBI on catching serial killers, lives in the middle of nowhere, wears a lot of plaid and perhaps has spectacles.....

Seriously though I don't know. 101 Dalmatians basically says you'll at least look like your BREED of dog, if you have one....haha.

I'm definitely a dog person, but I fit the cat person stereotype a lot more.

I'm sorry, but I think your dogdar isn't worth much ...

I don't think "dogdar" counts for much. A lot of dog owners I know do not wear leather, are not skinny, some are goth, some are business like, some smile a lot, some don't. It is extremely varied. Best way to tell if someone is into dogs or not would be to ask them if they have any dogs, or what their favorite breed of dog is when you begin talking to them. :P It's not an unusual get to know you question and if you ask it early, little time invested for you if you get the wrong answer.

A cat person have more scratches.

Haha I actually had more scratches when I was growing up from the dogs playing than the cats, the cats were nice enough to keep their claws in unless they got angry!

I'm introverted, not that outgoing nor do I like to hang around a bunch of people at once and I prefer dogs to cats. I like them both, but I get more emotion and affection from does. I like to take the dog with me on a walk...alone. I like cats too, I think they would be great for someone like me but it's harder to get a cat to bond with you. It's like you have to court them into owner/pet friendship while a dog just loves you automatically and you two are the bestest buddies for life.

Bollocks.

Absolutely no point whatsoever in me commenting here as you said it all!

Hahaha

You think dogs don't scratch a lot?

I actually have permanent scarring on my arms, legs and back from when my pup had little sharp pup claws. One on my arms needed stitches.

Also, bollocks.

It was rather insulting to dog owners.

Oops, a misunderstanding has happened because I'm not a native speaker, I apologise... I've replaced the controversial paragraphs by cake.

I meant that I thought that dog owners are more masculine on average (especially if the dog is of a hunter breed), but apparently it's false too.

And I didn't know that dogs scratch a lot too.
