In July of 2014 I went and got my blood/ hormones/ Chemical levels test for three main reasons.

  • Depression (Serotonin & Dopamine levels specifically)
  • Asexuality (Lack of a physical desire for sex)
  • Eliminate the fear of other health conditions related to lack of desire.

It wasn't so much validating my Asexuality than it was to eliminate any fears of health issues. Sexual desire can be lost by medical issues such as testicular cancer in males, that is well known and true. I had never been medically examined in depth regarding that issue and therefore wanted to clear my mind of any uncertainties. Thankfully it all turned out perfect with the exception of my cholesterol, that got a Red Flag for being TOO LOW! Fortunately since I am at the age of 19 it isn't a worry.

As for the primary goal of determining depression, it is not due to a chemical imbalance. I am the way I am.

I was diagnosed with low testosterone because of other things, and was on a supplement for a while. It increased my libido and I masturbated more, but had no effect on my asexuality; I still had no interest in having sex with anyone.

I was missing my periods so a myriad of hormones were tested. This was before I knew about my asexuality. I had elevated prolactin levels and was on treatment for a couple months. No changes occurred regarding my attraction. Yeah, no surprise.

Never did. I'm sure mine are normal. I have no health problems. I would never seek treatment because I don't have a problem with being asexual.

I had my hormone levels checked broke and after identifying as asexual, and the result was the same......normal.

Wow this is a very enlightening thread.

I consider myself asexual and hetero-romantic. I've never been sexually attracted towards men or women, but when I do find a man attractive, it's to his personality and/or any features above the waist. My favorite expression towards my bf is cuddling and meaningful conversations.

That describes me PERFECTLY and you did it so well. I was trying to figure out the 'finding people attractive' part - and yes, its everything above the waist lol

I too have considered getting my hormones checked, but I have people in my family who have had some scary complications from getting hormone treatments for various other things. I don't think its worth it. Plus, like someone said, I've had tests before and growing up as well - no doctor has said that my hormones were anything but normal.
