Truth and Lies
Curses! Another thread about languages. I swear, every time one of these pops up, I get so long-winded... I adore languages in general, and have interest in most languages in Europe. I've delved into quite a few at random, such as French, Portuguese, German, and Russian, but have not been able to decide which languages I truly want to focus on. I also have interests in Korean and Japanese. I took German I in the Spring Semester of 2015, but decided not to continue with it for now because I have other priorities, language wise. Probably, right now I'd have to say that the two spoken languages I am most keen on learning are Japanese and Russian. Japanese, I will be actively learning this upcoming college semester (with the hopes of not failing... when you are forced to jump into level two when there's a gap of several years from when you took the first level... T_T). I am hoping to achieve some level of fluency before the summer of 2017 because I want to study abroad for two months in Hokkaido. At one point, I was teaching myself Russian through the use of physical books and some online programs (such as Mango Languages) and I was even writing up simple little sheets to help me learn. I also have Rosetta Stone Level 1 for Russian, though I have not made use of it. I am currently putting learning Russian on pause to focus on Japanese. As for visual languages... hm... I mean, American Sign Language is used in the same country... but it's still foreign... I guess? XD I'm learning that right now, as well, though I have no real use for it because I don't know any deaf people and I certainly am not looking to be an interpreter, either. I'm taking classes because of my own interest and the possibility of meeting someone who I can use it to communicate with. I am going into ASL III this upcoming semester. ...I'm also looking into the basics of Japanese Sign Language. I have the basics of ASL down (fingerspelling, ABCs, numbers, simple conversation), so I thought now would be a good time to delve into the basics of another sign language. Ace of Amethysts
Japanese and Macedonian. My dad`s parents were Macedonian and he`s fluent in their language and English. He doesn`t have a Macedonian accent, though. I like the sounds of Japanese and have considered learning how to speak and read the language for a long time.
