Gender Identity

Hey everyone. So I'm really confused right now. See, I'm a girl physically, but I hate to look like a girl. I don't want to change my physical body, but I refuse to dress like a girl. I wear male clothes, use male personal care products, and act male. Am I transgender, or am I something else? (I realize I'm wearing a dress in my profile picture, but that was for a choir concert where we have to wear dresses)

Gender expression does not equal gender identity, love. :) You can be female and present masculinely. If you feel that transgender is a label you identify with, then go for it! Transgender - as I understand it, but I could be wrong - is very umbrella. Not all transgender people transition at all. Transmasculine is another umbrella-ish term that could work for you. But such labels reflect your own gender identity, whereas your clothes reflect your gender expression. Since they are not the same, you can easily be cis-gender and present masculinely, or present femininely and be trans. I just realised this might not help you figure it out... But I can't really label you for you. Gender-wiki defines these things really well for me. Might help you, too.

Thank you so much!! I didn't even know transmasculine was a thing, but after reading up on that, I think that's what best describes me. :)

I identify as transmasculine. I'm fairly cautious so I'm hesitant to do hormones or surgery because it's unknown territory to me. I wear t-shirts with jeans, exercises, or shorts with some sort of jacket. I would get men's clothes if my parents let me. Haven't used male personal care products but I act kind of androgynous/male. Wearing a dress would be a deal-breaker for me 99% of the time. That's why I did orchestra where we weren't required to. :P Plus I'm not vocal enough as a person to be a singer.

Do we sound similar? You're definitely somewhere on the genderqueer spectrum.

I'm thinking I'm probably a demigirl with the other part of my gender being male. Cause like, I feel female about 40% of the time, and male the other 60%

Wow, I just want to thank you so much for posting about this. I've been struggling with this exact thing all my life. I've always felt so different, and like something was wrong with me (well, when I was younger) or like maybe I hadn't realized something deeper about myself.

Anyway, now that I've read the link MoonWish offered (thank you!), I think I most closely relate to demigirl as well, and for me the breakdown is probably something like 30% female, 40% agender, and 30% male, and my expression is definitely more masculine (jeans, tshirts, etc.). Again, I just want to thank you for posting this, as it really helped me define a huge part of myself I'd never been able to easily explain (and sometimes even understand).

(Sorry for late reply, busy with schoolwork.) The way I chose transmasculine was that I thought of it as being both male and female, but more male with androgynous in the middle at 50/50. Demi- means one of your parts is one thing so you could also be demiboy by default. I'd be too dysphoric to use demigirl. I'm mostly sure of my gender identity but sometimes I wonder if I'm just genderfluid tomboy, androgynous, bigender (androgynous/male), or trigender (with like 10% female).
