Unfortunately, I have been smoking for around 40 years. Started when I was 9. I hate and loathe them, but am having a hard time (obviously) quitting. I quit June and July this year and started again in August.

I quit for a year and a half when I took Chantix, but it hasn't worked once I started smoking again. My Doctor tells me my lungs are fine, so far, but it's only a matter of time.

I'm a rational thinking person, and I know these will kill me, but I'm just not having any success with quitting. :(

Try hypnosis. I quit a 15-year, 3-pack-a-day habit after one hypnosis session, and I've never had a cigarette since. I have no idea why it worked and I was a bit disappointed that I was so obviously susceptible to hypnosis. (And no, I did NOT want to quit -- but my son and partner were bugging me and I decided that I'd try this last trick, and fail, and then just tell them to shut up and let me smoke in peace.)

I don't smoke, and I don't really like being around people who do.

  - This is how I react when around smokers.

My parents have both smoked all my life, so it's never really bothered me being around smokers/people being smokers. It's their lifestyle choice, not mine so I have to respect that.

No, and I've asthma (not that I've ever experience, but enough that my family has reminded me to put it on medical forums, apparently), so I don't think that I canbe around smokers.

Ex-smoker here. I quit quite recently (just at the beginning of November). I was on 10-12 a day - menthols only (standard cigarettes always made me feel sick). The first few weeks after giving up were hard - in fact, three weeks after I quit, in a moment of weakness I went out and bought a pack; lit one up, took a few puffs... and nearly vomited. Have not pined for a cigarette since. (The only problem is that since I've stopped smoking, my consumption of alcohol and sugary foods has increased - still, better than lung cancer/respiratory problems). :/
