Number of languages?

PlanetF

How many languages do you speak?

  1. 1. Number of fluent languages - I could converse in a wide variety of topics without too much problem, but my grammar may be wobbly

Fluent- English.

Point and grunt- Spanish and Japanese.

I used to be able to get by in Spanish, but it's been a while since I took it in school or practiced it, so I've forgotten a lot of it by now.

I love the diversity of languages mentioned in this topic - Icelandic and Lithuanian!

I'm only really fluent in English, although I can do more than just get by in Italian. I can also get by in French.

My 'point and grunt' languages are German and Mandarin. I like to say that I spent 10 years not learning Chinese, because I tended to spend a couple of weeks studying enthusiastically and then forget about it for months.

I'm currently working on Italian and German, but am thinking of switching emphasis next summer from Italian to French, which will be interesting given that I 'studied' it in school. Also, next summer I'll be finishing my Master's degree (not in language), so I expect to have slightly more time for language study.
