My time in Australia, back in January and February, temperatures in the mid to high 30's, even venturing in to the 40's, was absolute bliss.

Bliss?! That rather sounds like hell to me. I'm sure Australia is a beautiful country, but temperatures like these ... nope, thank you very much.

Me, too. Sort of like the opposite of SAD that causes people to get depressed in the winter.

(kind of annoys me when the radio or weather people talk about how it's going to be a nice/beautiful/great day because it's going to be bright and sunny and hot)

Exactly! I avoid watching or listening to the weather forecast because they are never objective, to say the least. And it's annoying to hear people rant about the so-called bad weather, which I don't find bad at all.

There are few people indeed who can relate to what I call my summer depression - you seem to be one of them, that's cool.

I can relate to this...

There are parts of Australia (such as Perth, where I used to live) which are full of people like that - the type who call 36 degrees Celsius with searing hot sun that can cause sunburn in under ten minutes "gorgeous weather". Even the local radio and TV stations seem to be staffed by freaks like that. And yeah, I hated it!

Over here in Melbourne, things are a bit more objective in that sense. Basically if it gets over around 30 degrees Celsius, most people will call it "hot", and there won't be universal proclamations of how "gorgeous" it is (although many "summer people" will still approve of it of course). And then when it gets over 35 or so, it gets almost universally condemned as a heatwave day, except by a minority of extreme summer lovers.

I live in Melbourne for lots of reasons - and this is definitely one of them. It would take a lot to make me live anywhere further north of here in Australia ever again. :D

My fave has to be Winter. It is such a lovely time of year. The cold, the rain, the scarves and hot coffee... it's just great. Also I seem to thrive in this season.

Same here :) The dark, cool/cold seasons make me come alive again - I virtually feel like a zombie in summer. For most people it's exactly the other way round, so it's pretty rare to find someone who understands.

Yay! *high fives* Yea it is rare and like the majority of people I tell this to always wonder what's wrong - like something has to be wrong with me for not liking the sun and the heat.

Ugh and how it's like ingrained in people to associated cold/cloudy/rainy weather with being bad/drab. Also also when people use the heat scale too loosely.. everything above 73F is too hot. under that is semi-tolerable. Under 65F is paradise.

In Australia, there's a slang term (a bit antiquated now) for going crazy - "going troppo" - which refers to people in the northern tropical parts of the country going crazy from the heat. I think the Malay term "running amok" refers to the same thing. ie When the heat gets to your head and you go on a rampage and dice everything and everyone in your village with a machete.

I'm actually a bit surprised that heat-related craziness isn't recognised as any kind of disorder or medical condition, as a counterpart to the SAD of dark and "drab" winter climes. Because it's definitely a real thing.

Nah, we are not the ones who are weird ...! I can only shake my head in disbelief when I hear people saying they actually love to sweat

And yes, let's not speak of fine weather until we're below 65F.

It sure is. You wouldn’t want to live in Germany with all those annoyingly patriotic Germans going troppo during and after the FIFA World Cup, I can tell you. I'm just relieved they don't have machetes here ...

Heh. Well, it would explain the stereotype that tvtropes calls Germanic Depressives (or, sour Krauts ).

Well, it's kinda true at least up here in the northwest of the country. Bavarians are... different. ;)

One of the main reasons I don't like Winter are the short days. If it is cloudy and raining, then it can stay pretty dark until 8:30 am ish. It can rain here for a week, that's pretty normal, and sometimes it's non stop. It starts getting dark at 3:30 pm. but it stays grey and over cast all day and you begin to crave sun light. And warmth. It rained every day in December, for three weeks. We even have a photograph of a duck who set up temporary residence in the puddle/lake that had accumulated on the field behind us ^_^

I think I would have a more even liking towards our seasons, if they were just a little bit more defined and equal.

Having said that, I count my lucky stars that I don't have to put up with the arse numbing Winters of Norway and their even worse lack of day light. My Aunt said that it makes Newcastle feel like Mauritis.

Berliners are grumpy and snap at you, whatever the weather. Now how do you explain that? ^_^

Winter is my favourite. I love the atmosphere, but only if it's a proper winter with snow and all. I honestly don't even care that it's sorta inconvenient but it relaxes me. I like to wear 4 layers and lie down in the snow with some music and some drinks. Preferably with a loved one. (: Which is kinda what most people do in summer, but heat fucks me up, I get sick more often, my muscles hurt and I just get exhausted. Some people get down during wintertime, like. winter depression or w/e? That is me, except in summer. The only exception is when I'm able to go to a festival! Only then I want summer to be a thing.

I will never understand the people who love to sweat. Like.. what? it's totally not a pleasant experience.

I personally love the short days. I love the amounts of darkness because I am not a day person anyways :P and the gray? Love it! Multiple layers and blankets = awesomeness. The smell of fresh rain and the look of wet streets and the display the streetlights cause.... bliss!

I wish it snowed here. I have never experienced it. I have always wanted to at least visit it. I love the cold but don't think I could deal with -36F. My bones would hurt so bad I'd be completely stiff. As summer comes to an end I get really anxious and ready for fall/winter.

Actually, in my more darker, depressed and introverted days, I enjoyed the Winter. I loved being able to cover up, especially my head, and if I could wear a snood or high-upon-my-face-scarf, then even better, and it was the ability to not show much of who I was that really appealed. And I could wear black and grey, too. And boots. I liked being able to wear boots and gloves.

Now look what you've all done! You've made me question my Winter hatred :P

Ack, it's supposed to be in the 100's this weekend, where I live. Even today, I needed to run a couple of errands right after lunch and was too hot ("only" in the 90s).

I love boots, scarves, sweaters, jackets, etc., but it's rarely cool enough to get away with most of that around here.

I imagine, what with you being more of a Winter lover and this being early Autumn, that temps in the 100's are most infuriating. I remember a line from the film, Swingers. One of the main characters, who is originally from New York and now living in Hollywood, is recounting the bad winters they used to have as kids. One of the other characters mentions that it is never Winter in Hollywood, that the sun always shines.

I always loved that line. The guy says it with the utmost respect and priviledge.

It's very true. Christmas day you see kids out in their shorts trying out their new bicycles, skateboards, and even surfboards. I am not even joking.

I am in a state of split decision here. The first is my love of traditional white christmases. I hope every year that we get one but in my 36 years on this planet, I have only ever had two. But if it does snow, even if it rains, then the kids can't get to play on their new bikes, skateboards (The North Sea is freezing even in Summer so surf boards are usually out of the question) and that would make me lean towards a sunnier, warmer and drier christmas day.

Favourite: Autumn
Pretty colours, nice heat, berries, mushrooms… how could you not like it!?

Least Favourite: Summer

Summer is difficult for me, sunlight gives me headaches and heat makes me grumpy because my head hurts and I can't see a bloody thing even with sunglasses and my skin itches and turns red and blotted after 5min in the sun.

Winter > Autumn > Summer > Spring

Spring and summer could potentially be switched, but I get more headaches in the spring, so it's the default least favorite.

I'm definitely a winter person, simply because I don't mind being cold, but hate being hot. Snow has play value whereas rain just gets you wet. Spring is a good season because it is the time I can start all my hobbies, and continue them through summer. Autumn everything stops

I love autumn, especially right when it's starting to get cold, but isn't yet cold enough for people to give me too many odd looks when I walk around wearing a dress. haha. Oh, and all things pumpkin, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Seriously, I could list probably fifty reasons why I love autumn. Winter comes in close second, though. Summer (despite it being the season of no school) is my least favorite, though it still is lovely in some ways. The beach, for one. Also iced coffee/tea drinks and longer days.

I find it funny that people long days for loving summer and short days for loving/hating winter. Cause truth of matter is, the days start to get shorter after the summer solstice and start to get longer after the winter solstice.

autumn is my favorite, for pretty boring reasons: i love the weather and being able to wear sweaters comfortably (fall/winter clothes are my favorite!), and i love watching the leaves change colors.

summer is my least favorite. i hate extreme heat, and-- like someone else said, strangely-- i have the worst luck in the summer every single year.
