Looking androgynous

Heyya, I was wondering if anyone had tips for a female trying to look more androgynous.

I already know about binding your chest but I can't find any information on what to do about hips, mine are kinda big and I want to create the illusion of skinnier slightly more male looking hips. At the moment my hips sort of giveaway that I'm female. Any ideas? Also any particular brands/shops that you recommend for androgynous clothes?

:cake: and thanks

I din't have any brands or tips to offer, but i do know: if you overshoot androgynous, people are going to think you are butch. Just make slight changes at first so your friends and family dont freak out like mine did :)

I personally like button downs, but the way they get thinner near the hips sometimes makes the hips look bigger, so watch out for that. Maybe try pulling your pants a few inches lower than they should be worn? To make you look longer.

I dont know if any of these tips actually work because i've never met an androgynous person and i accidentally went butch. I overshot it.

But make sure you have fun trying on clothes :D

I bet you will look super awesome!

I don't know how much I qualify as androgynous. Some people think I'm a guy some people think I'm a girl some people don't know [usually kids], but I don't know what causes it. I think is a mix between personality/body language/mannerisms and appearance. You could get an androgynous haircut.

As for clothes it depends on your style. I usually wear unisex graphic t-shirts. I trying to get a different more androgynous style though.

I tend to have the most luck with shirts that extend just past the top of my hips and fabrics that don't cling too tightly to my body's outline.

But it is a fine line to walk. With shirts of that length, untucked, you can create the illusion of a straighter torso. If the shirts are too loose or boxy, however, you can just end up looking awkward and small.

I would try to recommend a shop or clothing line, but I usually pick mine up from thrift stores. (Hoping to start T soon, and don't want to buy any pricey clothes that may not fit within the next six months.)

You can try Veer NYC, a brand / online shop for androgynous fashion. I love their stuff, but I can't even afford the 'bargains'. *sigh*

Another thing I do if I feel dysphoric about my hips is pull my jeans down so they sit at the top of my hips (the wider part), making sure they're tight enough not to fall down further. It keeps them from accenuating the comparatively narrower waist, and also allows you to tuck in tops without further accenuating your waist if you want to. I tend to wear looser tops that come down just past my hip though, and both things together tend to be good at hiding my hips.

I usually just shop in the men's clothes section when I want more masculine stuff, but I don't tend to get new clothes often. Mens jeans make a massive difference though.
