I decided to make a series of poll which can be used to tell the general idea of the philosophy of members of this site. It's going to be very long. Part 2 is going to be about existential worldviews and yes, the isms will be in the beginning. Part 3 is going to be about reincarnation. Please pick the option that would best describe you based from your own interpretation of theology. I'll make a graph of this soon.

Apathetic agnostic. Don't know, don't care. I don't think that we can ever know whether deities exist, and I don't believe that they influence us in any meaningful way beyond what we can perceive as natural. Therefore, it's ultimately pointless to concern ourselves with them. Personally, I don't think that there are any deities, but I don't think that it's possible to know for sure, so I consider myself agnostic.

Note that I have a degree in biology with a minor in chemistry and some background in physics.

Can someone define "spiritual" as opposed to "religious" so I can better answer the questions?

I consider myself an agnostic theist; I appreciate the morals that go with Catholicism and sometimes it's nice to believe that there might be some god out there, but I don't pray, don't go to church except the occasional Midnight Mass for Christmas, and frankly am more interested in scientific theories to the origin of the universe than spiritual/religious ones.

Agnostic (panen)theist;

spiritual (so much that if you were to remove the belief in the divine from my worldview, it would entirely collapse and leave behind cold, hard solipsism - for me, there is no rational way to believe in science without the god axiom);

not religious (officially left RomCath, the faith I grew up in, over ten years ago, and still see no incentive to join up with another organized faction).

How can one be atheist and agnostic? Don't the two contradict each other?

I put just regular atheist.

Depends. If your brand of atheism is to state that you know there not to be a(ny) god(s) then yes, they inherently contradict each other. It also means that capital-A Atheism is your religion (and the "not playing baseball is a sport" metaphor is nothing but bullshit propaganda to obscure the fact that you play the millennia old game of "my god can kick your false idol's ass" ;)).

(Yeah, not a big fan of gnostic atheists... or gnostic whatever-ists, for that matter. It's a stance inherently fanatical, intolerant, and opposed to freedom and human rights.)

I consider myself agnostic. As I do not currently believe there is a god, or angels or anything "holy", but I believe in spirits/entities, demons and things. I believe in reincarnation and multiple lives. But none of it is religious, entirely spirtual. I grew up in a pagan home, but my grandma and great-grandparents are christians, so I get a mix of both of those religions, with the freedom to think as I want from my mum.

If what I said fits another label or something just lemme know. This is probably the only subject that I do not take joy in learning and labeling, so I have no idea what most of the labels in this poll even mean.

I'm a bit late to the party, but spiritual, as I understand it, has to do with personally held beliefs, while religiousness has to do with organized religion and other forms of worship/ritual.

Agnostic apatheist theist :)

I personally believe in God, I don't find the idea that God exists in some form significantly less believable than the idea that God doesn't, so I personally believe (surprisingly strongly, actually). However, I don't think that good and evil come from God, or that expectations of divine reward and punishment are why one should act morally, so I don't believe that God existing or not should have any significant effect on behaviour - one should do the right thing regardless, even if one knows God exists, and will send you to Hell for eternity for it.

(In case it wasn't clear, I'm not much of a utliitarian, either.)

I put 'sometime spiritual', but that may be an exageration. I think the most one could say about my spirituality is that it exists. Sometimes.

(Oh, wait, sorry, I only looked at the date of the post above me. Sorry.)

I put just regular atheist.

Agnostic atheists (like me!) are people who do not believe in God but understand that we cannot know, or at the very least do not currently know, for sure.

I believe that there is power in personal belief and faith, so I put down "sometimes spiritual". Otherwise I'm an agnostic atheist, not religious.

That describes me quite well. For me it's basically head vs. heart: my brain is agnostic for sure, while my heart knows that God exists, as cheesy as it may sound.

I'm not religious, and I don't know what to make of the word 'spiritual'. But I do pray.

This poll is being locked and moved to the read-only Census Archive for 2014. As part of ongoing Census Forum organization, and in an attempt to keep the demographics of the polls current with the active user base at the time, each poll will last for one year. However, members are allowed and even encouraged to restart new polls similar to the archived ones if they like them.
