Become a contributor to The Asexual Agenda!

Recommended Posts

The Asexual Agenda is a blog written by ace-spectrum people, for ace-spectrum people, covering topics at a higher level than what you find in the mainstream news. We talk about experiences, identity politics, intersectionality, academic research, asexual activism, and anything else you like.

Several of our bloggers are stepping down: Calinlapin, Cleander, and Aydan. We thank them for their contributions, and wish them the best. We are now looking for new contributors.

Expectations:

If you become a contributor, I expect you to correspond with us by e-mail, and I expect you to write on occasion. You decide what to write about on your own.

How to apply:

To apply, please e-mail us at asexualagenda@gmail.com by April 23rd. Briefly (in ~100 words) tell us about yourself, and why you’d like to contribute. Also include a writing sample (300-1000 words), something that would be suitable to publish on The Asexual Agenda.

The application process is not intended to be difficult. The primary purpose is to demonstrate that you can correspond by e-mail, and that you know what sort of thing is appropriate to this blog.

Guest posts:

If you can’t contribute regularly, we are always open for guest posts. Please e-mail us at asexualagenda@gmail.com.

Would we be given prompts or do we have to come up with our own topics for posting? (e.g. is there a monthly theme, like for carnival of aces?)

No, there are no prompts. We may occasionally brainstorm topic ideas, but I want writers who can think of topics on their own. That's why, in the application, I don't give you a specific topic to write about. (That said, I do expect the writing samples to relate to asexuality, the asexual spectrum, or aromanticism.)

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

There are no age limitations. If you feel that you can provide a different perspective because you're a different age from most of us, that's great! Or if you aren't interested in talking about it, that's fine too.

I'm very interested in this agenda, but I was curious how often "regularly" was in regards to writing articles. If we're interested in joining but we're too busy to do much of anything for--let's say the next two months--should we still apply now or later or...?

Jackflip,

Sorry for the slow response. There will not be an opportunity to apply later. We only occasionally ask for new contributors--last time we asked was almost a year ago.

I don't enforce any update schedule on contributors. I'd like people to contribute once every two weeks, but basically nobody writes so often except Queenie and I. If you're too busy to write anything in the first few months, you wouldn't be the first such contributor. ;)

But I must insist on a writing sample. If you don't have time to send a writing sample with the application, I'll assume that you won't ever have time to contribute.

What about those guest posts? Did you need to apply for them, too?

No, there's no application for guest posts. Basically, you send us something, we review it, and then publish it. But you do need to start the process by coming to us--we won't come to you. I don't go around asking people to write guest posts.

I can't believe I didn't notice this before the deadline passed! Will future opportunities also be posted in this thread? At least I can still contribute as a guest. :)

You and I both. Funny thing is I might already have something I'll give a editing once over and perhaps I'll send it in.

Sorry, it's too late to apply now. As I said, we don't ask for new contributors very often--once or twice a year. I suppose if you PM me your e-mail, I can remind you next time it happens?

And of course there are always guest posts.
