My mother couldn't have cared less if I disappeared forever. If I were you(which we know I'm not), I would appreciate that attention, because it shows that she's concerned about you. You know what? It is probably her way of trying to protect you, so it may be something that you have to live with because she cares. However if you are really unhappy with it either don't tell her that you communicate on Skype, or explain to her that you are old enough to have your own personal life and make your own decisions. If she is really unwilling to deal with that and doesn't give you any personal freedom, you will have to take a leap of faith and move out on your own. Link to post Share on other sites

My personal practice is to not send out or accept any kind of stuff on my computer (I don't have Skype or any of the others) that I would not want my employer or anyone else to know about. I can speak somewhat freely here on Aven and on some of the other forums I am on because I am not using my real name. I am not trying to be judgmental, just remember if you send or receive questionable ("sexual") type stuff, it doesn't matter if you yourself are asexual. Once something is put on the Internet, you have basically lost control of it and you don't know where or how it will show up. I am very, very, very glad that the Internet was not around when I was in school and having social problems due to Aspergers. I did some things then that I am not proud of. Some of this stuff was still being brought up at my 25th class reunion. So some things do not die. From an employment standpoint, what you do put out on the Net under your own name is now public information and employers can and do use this to screen candidates. I work in a very security-conscious business and they have let us know as a matter of policy that we can expect background checks from time to time. They have also repeatedly reminded us that anything written in an e-mail can be and has been used in court. So just a word to the wise.
